Eli John Weaver

Eli John Weaver, 51, passed away peacefully on November 13, 2025, in Medford, Oregon, due to health-related issues. He had traveled to Oregon to spend meaningful time with his family, and his final days were filled with love and support from those closest to him.

Born on May 25, 1974, in New Mexico, Eli was the beloved son of Marie Hurley (Grindell) and Ike Weaver. From a young age, Eli possessed an incredible curiosity about the world and a natural talent for mastering whatever he set his mind to.

Eli was also an athlete from a very young age. He loved both playing and watching sports, especially soccer, which remained a lifelong passion. Growing up, he wrestled, played high school football, and continued to enjoy various sports as an adult. Whether on the field or cheering from the sidelines, Eli brought enthusiasm, dedication, and heart to every athletic pursuit.

He enjoyed a long and dedicated career in research, working for Dr. Vance Lemmon at Case Western Reserve University and later at the University of Miami. His commitment to scientific advancement was matched only by his dedication to helping others. His skills were endless—whether renovating his and Cassie’s home in under a year while commuting between Fort Myers and Miami, or showing up for neighbors in need during Florida hurricanes, going door to door to make sure everyone was safe and prepared.

A lifelong learner, Eli had a passion for knowledge, staying current on world events and maintaining a deep love for history. He was truly a jack of all trades: if something sparked his interest, he became an expert with ease. His natural ability and determination made him exceptional in everything he embraced.

Eli is survived by his loving wife, Cassandra (Cassie) Furst; his mother, Marie Hurley (Grindell), and stepfather, Dennis Hurley; his father, Ike Weaver, and stepmother, Kathy Weaver; his brother, Daniel Weaver, and spouse Kimberly Walker Weaver; his sisters, Aimee Weaver and spouse Jason Bennett, and Grace Herring and spouse Travis Herring, and their children Hanna and TJ; as well as many extended family members who loved him deeply.

Eli will be remembered for his kindness, intelligence, humor, and unwavering loyalty to those he loved. His presence made the world brighter, and his absence leaves a void that cannot be filled.

A celebration of Eli’s life will be held at a later date, allowing family and friends to come together to honor his memory and the beautiful impact he had on so many.

David Lynn Steensen

David Lynn Steensen—“Dave” to most, “Davey” to some, and “Sherpa” to his dad on the hiking trail—was born on September 5, 1957, in Shelton, Washington, to Paul and Shirlee Dee Steensen. From an early age, he loved the outdoors, especially long hikes with his father, which earned him that enduring “Sherpa” nickname. He also loved skiing and often said, “the world is better with snow in it.”Dave studied geology at Western Washington University, where he also met Karen Griffin, his life partner. After graduation, the two worked side by side at Redwood National Park on land restoration projects. He earned his master’s degree in geology at Humboldt State University, deepening his expertise in a field that matched his curiosity about the earth, his talent for “hand waving”, and his love of heavy equipment vehicles.Dave dedicated his career to the National Park Service, working in the Geologic Resources Division and eventually serving as its Chief. He believed deeply in the power of public lands and devoted his life to ensuring the nation’s geologic treasures would be preserved for future generations.Along the way, Dave and Karen raised two children, Cacia Marika and Severin William, first in California and then in Colorado. After retiring, he settled in Medford, Oregon, where he cultivated a beautiful forest farm and, true to his geologist’s eye, never stopped paying attention to the skies and the weather. Some of his happiest later moments were as “Gravy” (Grandpa Davey) to his grandson Ari Severin—whether giving tractor rides or snuggling in the chair for naps together.Dave lived with a deep sense of responsibility. He was a hard worker, a present parent, and a thoughtful steward of the land. He also had a playful side—his favorite movie was Harold and Maude, and he was known for telling stories that made him laugh so hard he could hardly finish them, like the infamous “egg out the nose” story. He had a gift for napping in his chair, a love for animals (Fred the cat being one of the most memorable), and an eye for old cars—he could name the make, model, and year of just about anything, with a special fondness for the 1955 Chevy. As a loving son to Paul and Dee, brother to Greg and Sandy, devoted husband to Karen, proud father, and delighted grandfather, Dave will be remembered for his loyalty, humor, quiet strength, and deep love for his family. Though he wasn’t always the most talkative person in the room, his stories, hand waving, laughter, and kindness made a lasting mark. And of course, he was instantly recognizable: bald on top, with a beard that was nearly always full.Dave’s life was a balance of dedication and delight—serious about what mattered, but never without warmth, humor, and the ability to pause for a good nap. His legacy continues in the people, places, and lands he loved so well.

Brent DeManby

Brent William DeManby, age 66, of Medford, Oregon, passed away peacefully at home on October 5, 2025, after a courageous battle with brain cancer. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, Brent lived a life defined by love, loyalty, and a remarkable ability to make others feel seen and valued.

Born on May 11, 1959, to John and Donna DeManby, Brent was raised in Medford alongside his brothers, Vincent and John. In grammar school the boys could be found causing mischief in the neighborhood and giving poor Mama DeManby a run for her money. In junior high Brent discovered his love for sports, taking up wrestling and football. Many of his closest friends date back to his years spent at Medford Senior High School. He graduated from MSHS in 1977, and shortly after, began what would become a 42-year career as a loader operator with Timber Products, in Yreka California. Brent was never one for fuss or spotlight. He showed up, did his job, took pride in it, and was known for lending a helping hand whenever needed. His dedication and hard work earned the respect of his colleagues and provided a steady foundation for his family.

On June 24, 1978, Brent married the love of his life, Tana. Their marriage was a true love story filled with laughter, friendship, and an unshakable devotion to one another. Together, they built a life centered on family and service to one another. They raised two children, Travis John, born in 1980, and Faye Marie, born in 1987, who would grow up knowing what it meant to be supported and loved unconditionally. Brent’s greatest joys came from spending time with his children. Whether he was loading up the car for a basketball tournament, or pom poms for a cheer competition, or making cookies at a school fundraiser, Brent never missed an opportunity to show up for his family.

Brent was an avid fan and a proud share holder of the Green Bay Packers. Some of his most favorite moments were spent managing his fantasy football team, The Oregon Express, and the many hours spent with his fantasy football YFFL buddies. Tana and Brent shared countless Friday and Saturday nights playing bingo or at the casino and had more than a few “near-jackpots” moments.

Brent also had a deep love for sports and South Medford High where for years you might find him keeping score for the basketball team. Go South! But perhaps Brent’s most enduring legacy was his deep and genuine interest in people. From his children’s friends to the neighbors, Brent made a point of learning people’s stories and more importantly, he remembered them. He would ask about your family, your hobbies, your latest game or vacation—always making you feel valued and heard.

Brent’s children and grandchildren describe him as someone who loved unconditionally. His son, Travis, fondly remembers the many trips Brent organized for him and his friends to attend basketball tournaments—each one filled with laughter, camaraderie and less than impressive song selections. His daughter, Faye, treasures the countless nights she spent next to her Dad at football and basketball games growing up. Her deep love of football was birthed from sitting next to her dad watching games. Lastly, his grandkids knew they could always count on grandpa to be there, cheering loudly from the stands or sidelines. In recent years, Brent and Tana and family looked forward to their summer beach trips to Cayucos enjoying beach days, endless pinochle, cribbage games and Sea Shanty Pie.

Brent is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Tana; his son Travis (Katie) and their children Logan, Luke, Ethan, and Lina; his daughter Faye (Cody) and their children Parker, Emerson, and Braylin; and his brother John (Cheri) DeManby. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Donna DeManby, his brother Vincent, and sister-in-law Linda.

A celebration of Brent’s life will be held on October 18th at 1:00 PM at the Rogue Valley Country Club in Medford, Oregon. All who knew and loved him are welcome to attend and share in remembering the man who always made room in his heart, and his schedule for others.

He will be deeply missed, but his legacy of kindness, steadiness, and unconditional love will live on in all who had the honor of knowing him.
