Today was absolutely perfect! I, along with Baptist University College of Osteopathic Medicine students and faculty, spent planting seeds in what is now the first medicinal herb garden at a medical university in Memphis,Tn.

Earlier this month, I was invited to be a guest lecturer where we bridged the gap between the spice cabinet and the medicine cabinet. It was such a beautiful full circle moment to put that lecture into action today. 🫶🏾🌱

Thank you for including in your Somatic Healing Series. Today, we talked about herbs that support the nervous system. And just when I thought the day couldn’t get any sweeter, I see this review on LinkedIn.

“Stephanie shared powerful insights into the connection between plant medicine and the body’s natural rhythms, offering participants tangible tools for nervous system support and regulation. It was a grounding and energizing close to a transformative series.” Dr. Patricia Bamwine

My heart is still smiling ☺️

Side Note*** She put me on to an African owned coffee shop called “The Horn” 1000/10 definitely going back. The brown sugar chai LISTEN!!!

I never saw this for myself. I guess that’s the beauty of the faith walk. You never know what God has in store for you, but you know it’s going to blow your mind when it’s revealed. I didn’t think I’d be in a room of doctors “bridging the gap between the spice cabinet and the medicine cabinet” but here I am.

Thank you .healers for being a beautiful part of my journey. Thank you for validating what I already know to be true, that herbal education matters and should be recognized in healthcare. 🫶🏾🌱

This moment deserves more than 24 hours in my stories.

This weather is giving spring, so I’m getting my herb garden started. I’m obsessed with my planter tags. You can buy them on amazon or get them at your local Home Depot. I tried the popsicle stick method and it wasn’t was effective as I wanted it to be. These planter tags are spacious enough for me to use the universal naming system (common name, nomenclature, and plant family). I used gel base and top coat to seal in the labels and make them waterproof. (It’s giving genius idea)

I plan to incorporate beautiful flowers to assist with pollination. I got a monarch butterfly seed kit, so hopefully we have some cute visitors this spring and summer. I’d say add in flowers that are native to where you live because that’s the perfect condition for the flowers to thrive, they tend to be more low maintenance, and you are contributing to your local biome. What better way to be socially and economically conscious?

I’m going to transfer these babies to their new home in a month or so. I decided to use the viral shipping pallet method to house my herb garden this year. So, be on the lookout for that transformation.

This year I want us to examine our relationship with our environments. 🫶🏾🌱

I recently joined the 😜
is one of the 300+ gardens I get to explore as a member. Today, I got a chance to check out the orchid exhibit happening inside of the mansion. One word, breathtaking.

I also stumbled upon an exhibit by William Edmondson, the son of slaves. He was able to buy his freedom and go on to create sculptures that were adored by people across the world. His medium of choice was limestone. His work was showcased in an art museum in NYC, and is now housed inside of the Cheekwood mansion for our enjoyment.

Also, there was a collection of artwork in one of my favorite styles, Impressionism. Many of the paintings that captivated me used oil as a medium. You can see the cracks that formed over time- which I think adds another layer of beauty and character.

Anyway, enjoy the museum from my POV.

✨☕️ New year, new tea added to the seasonal drink rotation! ☕️✨

I was gifted some persimmons, and after tasting the fruit, I knew I needed to make them into a tea. It’s so sweet, the sugars literally seep out. What better sweetener? I didn’t think this 😋Spiced Persimmon Tea 😋 would be such a hit since it was my first attempt. It’s delicious any way you choose to drink it- trust me I’ve tried them all!

🧠 The concept 🧠
I wanted each ingredient to complement the fruit. I decided to keep it in season which meant a BOLD & COZY flavor profile! I also wanted to get as many drink options as possible out of one batch of tea. This tea checked off all of the boxes.

✨Pro Tip✨ I was told to place them in the freezer so that the starchy consistency they typically have would become more congealed.

Save this post for later! 😉

…and the B is for Botany 🌱🌳🌸🫛

Herb531 Botany and Plant Identification for the Holistic Practitioner is officially behind me. I finished with a B+ (we claim every point over here 😂) While taking in all of this information can feel like drinking from a fire hydrant, I gained and retained so much knowledge. I’ll unpack some key takeaways from school over on my YouTube channel, but for now take a glance at this semester 💕

I’m one step closer to the stage. ☺️
Keep me in your thoughts and prayers as I near the end of this masters program. Stay in community with me, I need all of the support I can get. 🥂🫂

📍Foraging for antivirals📍I like to include echinacea and peppermint to my pine infusion for added support, and I know water and oil doesn’t mix, but add in a little black seed oil for good measure with LOCAL honey for taste. 🫶🏾🌱We love being mindful of over harvesting, but the good thing about these needles is the more you put in your cup, the less you have on your lawn 😜It’s giving herbalist math 😂😂😂

A few shots from my chrysanthemum dissection lab.

The goal was to identify the plant parts, and incorporate general terminology for classifying the flowers. This lab also introduced me to materials like the scalpel, forceps, and magnifying glass- while being mindful of safety protocols.
