The eight prayer watches originate from biblical traditions where the day and night were divided into specific periods for prayer and vigilance. This practice emphasizes the importance of strategic prayer at designated times, reflecting a historical pattern seen in both Jewish and early Christian practices.

When a person or animal dies, it's not long before you smell the stench of death. Sin brought on death, it was the wages of sin. We live in a sin sick world. Praise God Jesus came to do away with sin, and the last enemy, which is death. Hallelujah. No more stench, just sweet aroma. Thank You Jesus. Sin is a stench in God's nostril, God doesn't want to smell it. Just like only the mentally ill, would enjoy the stench of a dead person or animal. Isaiah 65:5 King James Version
5 Which say, Stand by thyself, come not near to me; for I am holier than thou. These are a smoke in my nose, a fire that burneth all the day. Isaiah 59:2
“But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.”
King James Version (KJV) 2 Corinthians 2:15-16
King James Version
15 For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish:

16 To the one we are the savour of death unto death; and to the other the savour of life unto life. And who is sufficient for these things?

The phrase "stench in God's nostrils" refers to the displeasure God feels towards sin and hypocrisy, as described in Isaiah 65:5, where it states that those who claim to be holier than others are like smoke in His nostrils, igniting His anger. This imagery emphasizes how God perceives sinful behavior as offensive and unacceptable.

Job asks: 'If a man die, shall he live again?' This is Scripture's great question about resurrection. The verb chayah (חָיָה, live) means to revive, be restored to life. Job immediately answers: 'all the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come.' The word tsava (צָבָא, appointed time) suggests military service or hard labor—Job will endure his difficult time waiting for transformation. Chaliphah (חֲלִיפָה, change) means renewal or relief. Though Job lacks full resurrection theology, he grasps that death isn't final and waits for God's appointed deliverance.

Job 14:14
King James Version
14 If a man die, shall he live again? all the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come.
