Women Leaders in Healthcare retreat89t in Nashville on Saturday, Feb. 29th.
Let me tell you a little bit about what prompted me to offer this retreat.
Over many years, I have worked with women leaders in healthcare. I gained a deep appreciation for the passion and dedication of various providers and stakeholders who desire to bring about change for the betterment of others and their industry. They face the challenges of working in systems with so many competing agendas and diverse cultures.
I come from a family of nurses and over the years, as they shared their challenges and rewards, they readily sought out my experience working in male-dominated industries. I know firsthand how work and results can be so alluring.
Early on and without realizing it, I had put my well-being on the side lines. Joy and family were missing in my life. Fortunately, I made some key choices that resulted in changing the trajectory of my health, social life, and spirituality. It took some time to transform and realize greater joy and impact—personally and professionally. As I was broadening and cultivating my personal life, I was developing resilience that was advancing my work. As I shared my learnings through a framework, others also found the framework meaningful.
I believe for many reasons that the healthcare system needs women leaders who can bring their whole selves into their work. Especially now, these women leaders are needed to help guide the many changes, including the way that information technology is being used that is having unintentional side effects ultimately impacting many issues including patient care.
Some of my many roles in healthcare include being an executive coach of a specialized medical doctor, senior manager bringing three competing hospital systems to the decision-making table, and a coalition coach to advance community health indicators.
When I moved recently to Nashville, two women leaders from Vanderbilt Medical Center encouraged me to offer a retreat. The retreat draws upon my years directing large-scale change and introduces my framework for building resilience. Retreat participants will also receive support from other women leaders and will learn some somatic practices to be more resilient.
