Happy Independence Day from Memorial Planning! As we celebrate the founding of our nation, we’d like to recognize the rich history of one the locations in our network, Kirk & Nice Funeral Home and its role in the Revolutionary War.

More than 100 years before it became the Kirk & Nice we know today, Jacob Knorr founded the business as a “joiner” (carpentry) shop in 1761. Jacob was a prominent architect and builder in Philadelphia’s Germantown – and on occasion, he would make custom coffins for locals.

Though business prospered, in 1777, the Battle of Germantown brought the Revolutionary War to Philadelphia’s front door and left hundreds of casualties. After the battle, Jacob rose to the occasion to provide coffins and bury fallen troops in an act that would designate him as the local undertaker.

Today, 58 Continental Army men – America’s first soldiers – are at rest in the historic Upper Burial Ground of Philadelphia. The old joiner shop continued to operate with Knorr carving his way to the future of community service and deathcare.

In honor of Juneteenth, we would like to recognize Dr. Sarah Fraser. Born in Jan. 1850, her childhood home was a major stop on the Underground Railroad where she and her parents helped enslaved African Americans escape to freedom.

According to the Journal of the National Medical Association, even as a child, Sarah helped treat injuries and illnesses that people obtained during their escape. This remarkable work provided a foundation for her future: Sarah’s desire to help others drove her to earn a medical degree and become the fourth African American female physician in the country.

We honor Dr. Sarah Fraser and her remarkable legacy. Her dedication to emancipation, healing, and family are all powerful reminders of what we pay tribute to on this day.

Our Story

Northridge Woodhaven Funeral Home & Cemetery provides quality services to families of Millington, Shelby and Tipton Counties, and the greater Tri-State Area of Tennessee, Arkansas, and Mississippi. We embrace traditional values, diversity, and innovation in honoring the spirit and life of each person we serve.

We at Northridge Woodhaven Funeral Home believe that the choices you make to celebrate the life of your loved one should be as special as the person they represent. That’s why you’ll always find our staff ready to go the extra mile to meet your special needs and requests.

Established in 1955, Northridge Woodhaven Cemetery consists of a well-manicured park that houses a peaceful wooded area with a small reflection pond. The grounds are a sprawling 72 beautiful acres with only 27 acres currently landscaped. Four of our seven gardens have features: a veterans memorial in the Garden of Honor, a Bible in the Garden of Devotion, a statue of Christ in the Garden of Christus, a wooden cross in the Garden of Cross, and a St. Jude statue in the Garden of Hope, which was donated to Northridge from The Shannon Family of Millington.

Most of the cemetery sections, also called gardens, have a central feature. The cemetery grounds also feature a country pond which is overlooked by rolling hills. Our doors are open to our families six days a week, so drop by for a visit and a drive through scenic grounds. Northridge Woodhaven Cemetery offers traditional ground burials, cremation inurnments, single and double lawn crypts, and mausoleum interments.
