My personal therapy dogs are registered with the International Organization, Intermountain Therapy Anmals. ITA strives to increase human health through therapy animals. Since 2000, I have been dedicated to working with my Goldens to increase the awareness of the positive effects of animals, to reduce the barriers that prevent the involvement of animals in everyday life and to expand the therapeutic role of animals in health, service and education. In 2007, I entered the exciting world of Miniature Mediterranean Donkeys. I have discovered their unique sweetness and trustworthiness around not only children but also the elderly and disabled. Minis are remarkable … in the joy they bring to people of all ages. In March 2009, I registered my first mini donkey, Nestle (Nestle's Story) with Delta Society. Nestle and I visit at Baptist Rehabilitation Center in Germantown, TN where she shares a smile with people of all ages and different disabilities. We also visit Page Robbins Adult Day Care Center in Collierville, TN where "living in the moment" is the motto of all of us at the center. Nestle also attends Camp Bravehearts - a grief camp for families who have lost loved ones. Her favorite part of camp is when she gets to join in the singing with the kids - her favorite song is "Gray Squirrel, Gray Squirrel" - Boy Can Nestle Bray Out a Tune!!! This summer, we hope to attend Camp Good Grief (a grief camp for kids who have lost a loved one). Miniature donkeys are fun and therapeutic to anyone that is involved with them.
