This morning our residents got their blood flowing with guided morning stretches led by our Activity Director. We do these a few times each week to help improve circulation and maintain flexibility, all while listening to upbeat music and sharing plenty of laughs. ๐Ÿ’ช๐ŸŽถ๐Ÿ˜Š

โญ๏ธ Staff Spotlight โญ๏ธ
Weโ€™re excited to introduce Demetrious McCollum, our Maintenance Assistant and Housekeeper here at Park Merced! Demetrious has been a valued member of our Park Merced family for a little over a year. Born in Greene County, Alabama, he is the oldest of four children and lived in Alabama until joining the military in 1999. Demetrious proudly served in the U.S. Army as both a truck driver and infantryman, retiring as a Staff Sergeant in 2025. The discipline, teamwork, and values he gained through his military service continue to guide him in his work today.

During his time in the military, Demetrious traveled all across the United States and especially enjoyed the early morning training and daily routines that helped shape his strong work ethic. Demetrious is married to Natasha, one of our Park Merced Med Techs, and they have been married for five to six years. He has two children and one grandchild who live in Alabama, along with two dogs, a German Shepherd mix and a Mini Pinscher. In his free time, Demetrious loves to cook, barbecue, and eat! He also enjoys shooting pool, fishing, and cheering on his favorite football teams, the 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs.

What drew Demetrious to Park Merced was the positive environment and the opportunity to work with seniors. He enjoys being someone our residents can depend on and loves staying busy fixing things around the community. His favorite part of working at Park Merced is how much it reminds him of his grandparents, whom he was very close to on both sides of his family. Many of the shows our residents enjoy bring back fond memories from his childhood, making his work especially meaningful and fulfilling. Since moving from Alabama to California, Demetrious has grown to love the weather and is proud of the home he and his wife have worked so hard to build together.

We are so grateful to have Demetrious as part of our Park Merced team and appreciate everything he does for our residents every day!

Yesterday, Amie Marchini Senior Care had the pleasure of hosting a candle making experience for the incredible health care professionals who not only support our residents and home care clients, but also touch the lives of so many people throughout our community. With delicious food, lots of laughter, and plenty of smiles, it was a joyful time to slow down, connect, and create something beautiful together. ๐Ÿฉท

Today our National Park Virtual Adventures continued with a trip to the Channel Islands. Often called the Galรกpagos of North America, the Channel Islands are made up of five remarkable islands off the coast of Southern California and are known for their rugged coastlines, sea caves, and diverse wildlife found nowhere else in the world. ๐ŸŒŠ

Residents enjoyed watching an informative documentary that highlighted the islandsโ€™ natural beauty, rich history, and unique plant and animal life. To complement our adventure, we enjoyed a lunch inspired by The Beach Cafe featuring a Fiesta Salad, Smokey Charro Beans, El Pastor Tacos, and Mexican Corn, all finished with a sweet churro for dessert. ๐ŸŒฎ๐ŸŒฝ

It was a wonderful way to explore one of our nationโ€™s most stunning national parks from the comfort of home while enjoying great food and great company. ๐ŸŒž๐ŸŒฎ

Today is National Peach Melba Day! ๐Ÿ‘ This afternoon our residents enjoyed a delicious homemade Peach Melba, lovingly prepared by our amazing Activities Director, Kathy! This classic dessert featured layers of sponge cake, sweet peaches, vanilla ice cream, and raspberry syrup, all topped off with toasted almonds for the perfect finishing touch. It was a treat that delighted both taste buds and hearts! ๐Ÿ’›

๐Ÿ“œ A Little Peach Melba History:
Peach Melba was created in the late 1800s by renowned French chef Auguste Escoffier in honor of Australian opera singer Dame Nellie Melba. The elegant combination of peaches, vanilla ice cream, and raspberry sauce quickly became a beloved dessert and has remained a timeless favorite ever since. ๐Ÿจ๐Ÿ‘
