Hey friends— just wanted to get something off my chest, here.
When I first started participating in yoga sculpt 10+ years ago, I was TERRIFIED to go. Yeah. You see, I’m not exactly made of the stereotypical “yoga” material. I’m not flexible. I have the attention span of a Labrador puppy and it’s very hard for me to “be still” on my mat. I never found my “center”, and the only peace and tranquility I felt was when i was in the car, driving home. I was so anxious and convinced everyone would notice and point out my many, many mistakes during the practice.
If you’ve ever been on the fence about trying yoga, or my yoga classes, PLEASE don’t be hesitant. I don’t care how fit you are. Truly. I dont care if you’ve never done yoga before. Technically speaking, yoga is the fusion of breath and movement. So congrats. If you’re breathing and moving simultaneously, you’re doing yoga! Woohoo!
I don’t expect perfection in my classes because you absolutely will not see perfection in me as an instructor. My downward dog looks like it has fleas…my chaturanga tends to be chata-wrong sometimes. I’m still not flexible. My belly hangs over my shorts in most poses. I forget to cue you sometimes, and i mix up my counting a lot (woops!). I don’t care. The goal of this practice isn’t perfection. Its PRACTICE.
As long as you’re moving your body and having fun, thats truly all that matters. Shoot, you can just lie there and pet goats for all I care. Whatever brings you joy and feeds your spirit. Wellness isn’t just about having a “fit body”. It’s being content in mind, body, and soul.
So, if you’ve ever held yourself back from attending because you think you may not fit the “yoga” bill, I promise, you’ll fit with me. ❤️❤️
Stay well, and stay wild, my friends.
