Dry needling is one of the services I provide to my clients for pain relief and improving function. I have found it to be a really effective treatment because we are able to get directly to the problem area and create a change. The needle allows us to target tissues that we just can't reach with our hands or other modalities.
How does it work?
1. A thin monofilament needle is inserted into a muscle.
2. This elicits a response from the nervous system, often marked by a noticeable twitch response.
3. Then electrical stimulation can be added for pain relief and/or to improve muscle function and tissue health.
4. Physical activity and specific re-training exercises are encouraged following dry needling.
The needling is a RESET helping you to use those muscles correctly with improved motor control. After the reset, we REINFORCE these correct movements with physical activity and then work to RE-LOAD these tissues with strength building exercises.
Dry needling is a technique physical therapists use for the treatment of pain and movement impairments.
