Brave Heart Therapy

Brave Heart Therapy Learning how to ask for help is an act of modesty and bravery. Hello!

My name is Benita and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Arizona and the founder of Brave Heart Therapy. I earned a Bachelor's degree in Social Work from University of Kentucky and a Master's degree in Social Work from Arizona State University. I provide psychotherapy to individual adults (18+) and specialize in trauma, PTSD, complex PTSD, anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, mood disorders, and life transitions. I am trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) Level I and Level II and am in the process of obtaining EMDR certification. I have training and experience providing trauma-focused treatment through the lens of Structural Dissociation Theory. In addition, I have experience in Polyvagal Theory, ERP (Exposure and Response Prevention), DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy) and CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy). My theoretical orientation is trauma and informed and client centered and I take a multi-modal approach to treatment allowing me to assist my clients in discovering the origin of presenting challenges and distress.

Grief doesn’t follow a timeline or move in a straight line.

It can come in waves; sometimes expected, sometimes not.
Some days it’s quieter. Other days, it takes over.

All of that is part of it.
You’re not doing it wrong. 🤍

Therapy is delicate work and this is because we are unlearning patterns that have been apart of the way we operate for our entire lives.

Learning how to undo these patterns is uncomfortable, but not impossible ✨

Dissociation is a defense mechanism our brain employs against overwhelming situations. It serves as a trauma response where we leave our bodies or don’t feel real.

If you are dissociating, you may feel disconnected from yourself and the world around you. For example, you may feel detached from your body or feel as though the world around you is unreal.

✨ Hi, I’m Benita. I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, EMDR Certified Therapist, and Owner of Brave Heart Therapy.

I’ve been in the mental health field for about 6 years. I specialize in trauma and trauma related dissociation, however I also treat various mental health and relational issues. I’m not a blank-slate, and what I mean by that is that I will allow my personality to be a part of the therapeutic process. I believe there is so much value in someone’s healing to be seen by another human who is grounded in their own authenticity.
Other things about me: I love…fitness, my cat, traveling, visiting new places, meditation, self-development, reading, learning new things, spirituality, music, going to shows/festivals, spending time with friends/family, being by the ocean, and creating art.
I genuinely enjoy being a therapist and wouldn’t have it any other way. I’m grateful everyday to have a passion for my work!
