Y'all it don't have to be "okra water". You can eat your okra gumbo, okra with the red gravy, okra in your beans or greens, raw, etc...you just gotta keep some of that slime. Okra is very fibrous and that does what? Help you go to the bathroom. That "slime" help to lubricate the intestines for easy bowel movement. How does that help birth? We as birthworkers want our mothers to keep emptying their bladder and have a bowel moment (if they can) because this allows more ROOM for the baby to drop down and get in position. Okra isn't the only way to do this, some clients experience loose bowels as a sign of early labor. But I digress... So, it's not an 'old wives tale'. Okra is a food that we have continued to eat. That couldn't be taken away from us and has so many benefits. One of them is to help the baby slip out 😉💚
