Addiction Get Educated My Friends!
Here’s what happens to us.......
Over time, when living with an alcoholic, we have a tendency to lose sight of who we are because we are constantly obsessing over the alcoholic.
You must break the obsession by doing things with friends, attending support group meetings and planning things to do that you enjoy without them~

Addiction Get Educated My Friends......
False Reality!
Somehow, we think that if we confront them and tell them how awful their behaviors are that this will make a difference. We say things like; “you’re ruining our families lives, can’t we just have a normal life, if you would stop drinking everything will be OK”.
Well, those comments don’t make a difference at all. We can threaten, scream, and throw them out of the house and they will still romance the bottle until they hit bottom, and decide to get help for themselves ~

ADDICTION GET EDUCATED!
Granted, many people who know that someone is an addict try to help, and I have respect for them and share sadness with them, too. But there are enablers. Enablers can be forgiven for past choices to ignore that their loved one has a problem, only if they take the toughest stance that they ever had to, and don’t sugar coat the fact that drinking in excess daily, or drugging up isn’t the norm.
There’s no shame in calling it like it is. If people don’t break the cycle of enabling, and instead bide their time watching their beloved addict self-destruct, the end result will break the cycle for them - when their loved one is gone, and their hearts will be broken, too ~

ADDICTION GET EDUCATED!
There’s a good chance the alcoholic or addict will try to make you believe that it is your fault that he or she picked up. The addict will tell you that if you didn’t say or do certain things, the relapse wouldn’t have happened.
This is absolutely not true. Alcoholics have the urge to drink because they are alcoholics. Drug addicts are compelled to use drugs because they are drug addicts. It’s that simple. You don’t have the power to make your loved one pick up, and you don’t have the ability to make your loved one get sober. Don’t blame yourself for the addiction, and don’t let him or her blame you ~

DRUG ADDICTION GET EDUCATED!
Love your child. But remember that loving your child does not mean enabling your child. It means holding him or her accountable for his or hers behavior and refusing to allow him or her the power to dismantle the family.
Do not assume that you can “rescue” your adult child . . . That is simply not possible and attempts to do so are definitely not the way to encourage autonomy and responsibility for any adult ~
