Happy Earth 🌎 Day 🤍

As we celebrate Earth Day, let us remember that just as yoga unites the mind, body, and spirit, it also connects us to the Earth and all its beings. Let us honor the Earth by treading lightly, embracing sustainability, and nurturing a deep sense of interconnectedness. On this Earth Day, let us practice yoga not only on our mats but also in our daily lives, for the well-being of ourselves and our precious planet.

🌱 What are the 8 Limbs of Yoga? 🧘

YAMA – Restraints, moral disciplines or moral vows.

NIYAMA – Positive duties or observances.

ASANA – Posture.

PRANAYAMA – Breathing Techniques.

PRATYAHARA – Sense withdrawal.

DHARANA – Focused Concentration.

DHYANA – Meditative Absorption.

SAMADHI – Bliss or Enlightenment.
-
In Patanjali’s Yoga Sutra, the eightfold path is called ashtanga, which literally means “eight limbs” (ashta=eight, anga=limb). These eight steps, commonly known as the 8 limbs of yoga, basically act as guidelines on how to live a meaningful and purposeful life. They serve as a prescription for moral and ethical conduct and self-discipline; they direct attention toward one’s health; and they help us to acknowledge the spiritual aspects of our nature.

The Yoga Sūtras of Patañjali 🌱

I am so exited to be the proud owner of this book. So far I got stuck in just the vowels portion. I want to understand the majority of what I read so I started using to help me learn some Hindi Sanskrit.

The first portion of the book is on yoga history. I am going to commit at least 10 pages a day, so that I have time to meditate on the words I’m reading.

For those who are not familiar with this book, The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, translated and commentated on by Sri Swami Satchidananda, is a guide to the path of yoga, offering insights into the mind and its control, the practice of meditation and its benefits, and the attainment of inner peace and liberation.

This is a powerful book and I cannot wait to study!

How is yoga different from meditation?
-
Yoga is a form of exercise that uses specific body postures to achieve physical and mental health benefits, while meditation is a practice that can be done with or without movement in order to focus and calm the mind.

Technically you can do both at the same time. 🌱🧘✨🙏

🌱Daily Meditation 🧘
-
Controlling your attention as you meditate can help you feel more relaxed and at peace. And this peacefulness often lasts far beyond the meditation itself. So when stress appears hours later, you have the means to redirect it. Meditation lets you become more aware and more purposeful about your actions.

I have been using as a meditation tool for over a month now and I can say with confidence I feel better overall. There’s a sense of peace after each meditation session and the guidance is oh so helpful.

I’ve been thinking a lot about the root of all suffering lately. Attachment! When we attach ourselves to things, people, or even ideas, we set ourselves up for disappointment and pain. Letting go of attachment is the key to finding peace and happiness.
