AAOS 2026 recap: innovation, collaboration, and momentum.

Honored to receive The Hip Society’s 2026 Otto Aufranc Award presented by Dr. Michael D’Apuzzo, celebrate an incredible AALOS meeting,and share new research from the University of Miami Joint Replacement powerhouse.

Our team presented multiple posters and talks highlighting the work coming out of Miami, and we closed the week with a fantastic Alumni Night, reconnecting with colleagues, mentors, and friends across the orthopaedic community.

Grateful for the collaboration, the ideas, and the people pushing our field forward.

It’s truly inspiring to see how, even in the most challenging circumstances, the medical community in Ukraine continues to learn, grow, and strive for excellence. At the Ukrainian Trauma Congress, I was reminded that our shared mission—to improve patient outcomes and quality of life—transcends borders and adversity. Our study highlights the importance of cotinine testing as an objective measure to verify smoking cessation before hip and knee replacement surgery. Findings show that while most patients report reliably, discrepancies—especially in total knee arthroplasty—highlight the need for careful perioperative optimization.

Proud to share our latest work in the Journal of Orthopaedics:
“Array pin placement in robotic-assisted total hip arthroplasty: Optimal trajectory to avoid neurovascular injury”

In this study, we used MRI imaging to analyze the optimal trajectory for pelvic array pin placement in robotic-assisted total hip arthroplasty (RATHA), aiming to minimize neurovascular injury and maximize stability.

💡 Key takeaway: Choosing the correct caudal angle is critical to avoid major neurovascular structures while ensuring the distal tip of the pin is fully in bone.
