Who else chooses a word of intention for the year? 🙋‍♀️

My word for this year is ACTION 💥.

Why *action*❓ As I reflected on 2023 and my goals for 2024, i realized that a lot of what is holding me back from reaching many of my goals is my lack of taking ACTION ~ I am realllly good at getting things done in the quiet and safety of “behind the scenes” (at my desk) but never actually take the action to put what I create out there for people to see (it’s a lot scarier). 🙃

So I’m sharing this so that you all can help keep me honest and remind me to keep showing up in action when it gets hard and uncomfortable. 🫶

Went back to today to talk with the freshmen girls about body image, social media, cultural “beauty” pressures and how important our self talk is to our health. It was fun to be back on campus and kind of surreal to be leading the discussion in the classroom where I took Geometry 😂. One of the girls in the group is the niece of another ‘98 EHS grad which was super fun to find out! I am grateful for the opportunity to facilitate today and will continue to share my message in hopes of changing our narrative from criticism to kindness.

Sometimes I find myself wishing there was an elevator to take when I’m trying to reach a goal. You know, fast, no sweat, no discomfort, and just enjoy the ride kinda thing…. But life has taught me that we all have to take the stairs. There is no elevator! But one of the best things about taking the stairs is that we just have to focus on taking 1️⃣ step at a time. As long as we are moving up those steps, we are making progress. It doesn't matter how fast we climb, we just have to focus on taking one step at a time ❣️

1. Food is our body’s fuel. When we don’t eat enough we run out of energy. Plain and simple.
2. Protein is the most satiating macronutrient, meaning it keeps us full the longest. It is also a key player in balancing your blood sugar so that it doesn’t drop quickly or get too low (translation: feeling tired, cranky, uninspired, hangry).
3. Having too much sugar at a meal is like putting throwing your body inti a college party ~ feels fun at the time but leaves you with a bad hangover. That is because sugar tastes good and raises our blood sugar, which can feel good, buuuuut…. What goes up, must come down … and when our blood sugar levels drop, we feel blah (translation: feeling tired, cranky, uninspired, hangry).

As you can see, keeping our blood sugar balanced throughout the day is really important. Think of it as a roller coaster ➡️ unbalanced blood sugar gives us the big highs and the big lows, neither of which is ideal 🎢. We want our blood sugar to resemble a kiddy-coaster with very small highs and lows 〰️.

Coffee is not the fix to your afternoon slump. Balancing your blood sugar IS 🫶
