Adaptive Riding Program | Program-Suitable Horse Search
The Adaptive Riding Program is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit seeking two horses suited for purposeful, well-managed work within a professional adaptive riding environment serving the Northeast Florida community. This opportunity may appeal to local equestrians who wish to place their horse in a structured, deserving program with thoughtful oversight and long-term care.
⸻
Horse Profile
We are seeking horses that:
• Are safe, reliable, and mannerly on the ground
• Have prior show-ring exposure and are comfortable with noise and routine activity
• Work confidently at walk / trot / canter in an instructed setting
• Are patient with grooming, handling, and arena work
• Can go in English or Western tack
Stock-type and small draft breeds tend to be the most suitable, though we are always open to considering any solid, dependable citizen
⸻
Workload & Care
• Horse use is regulated and limited based on individual needs
• Horses are never overscheduled or overused
• Scheduling is intentionally conservative, prioritizing soundness, mental well-being, and longevity
• Equipment is assigned individually to support health and comfort
• Each horse receives an individualized maintenance plan appropriate to age, condition, and workload
⸻
Suitable Situations
This may be an excellent fit for:
• A horse whose owner would like them to remain active in appropriate work
• A horse stepping back from full-time showing but still enjoying a job
• Owners considering a lease arrangement
• Owners considering a permanent placement or tax-deductible donation to a nonprofit program
For horses of higher appraised value, an independent equine appraisal will be required to establish an appropriate tax-donation value in accordance with IRS guidelines.

Program Overview
Our horses support adaptive riders, Special Olympics equestrian athletes, and veterans under the supervision of qualified instructors and trainers. Horses are treated as valued partners in education and service, with respect for their physical and mental limits.
We are a well-known and respected program, with references available from prior donors, industry partners, and routine service providers.
We are happy to discuss expectations, maintenance, and whether a horse may be a good mutual fit.
