This is such an important step forward for our community! Supporting individuals before release sets them up for long-term success. Grateful to see so many organizations coming together to reduce barriers and promote lasting change. Well done, Bell County Detention Center and partners!
Jailer Barb Venable is proud to announce the launch of a new monthly pre-release program at the Bell County Detention Center, designed to reduce barriers and promote success for individuals transitioning back into the community. This initiative features monthly classes aimed at assisting incarcerated individuals as they prepare for reentry.
Approximately 20 community partners, including professionals in housing, treatment, legal aid, healthcare, education, and employment services, joined the effort to speak with inmates about the challenges of reentry and the wide range of resources available to support them. Upon release, each individual will receive a comprehensive release packet filled with essential contacts and services to help them take proactive steps toward rebuilding their lives.
Special thanks to Pam Sulfridge (UK HealthCare) and Jana Shell (Team Kentucky's Reentry and Employment Services Branch) for their invaluable support in making this program a reality.
Importantly, this initiative is provided at no cost to the county or taxpayers, this is made possible through the support and collaboration of partnering organizations. Together, we're working to reduce recidivism and support successful reintegration into society.
