Let’s try this again :)!!

I LOVE all the questions regarding the best food for fertility. ⁠

There is so much evidence, and it is growing daily, that nutrition plays a huge role in fertility and a healthy pregnancy.⁠

The main takeaways are: ⁠

- Eat nutrient-dense foods with plenty of vitamins and minerals⁠

- Increase antioxidant intake⁠

- The foods you eat 6 months prior to conception are important determinants of your health during pregnancy, and your baby’s health!⁠

Preconception is so important and is when you should build up your nutrient reserves, support your egg health, and set the stage for a healthy pregnancy and baby.⁠

Truth be told, my first pregnancy was when I was 22, it was unexpected, and it was, by far, my most difficult pregnancy for both me and my baby. I will share that story sometime soon, but know that not only is the science there to confirm the importance of the preconception time, personal stories further back it up!⁠

Thinking about a fertility detox?⁠

You need to be more than 6 months prior to conception⁠

Why?⁠

Because follicles take 6 months to develop before they are ready to release their egg, PLUS we really don’t want to be releasing toxins right before pregnancy for obvious reasons!⁠

How do you know you might need to detox?⁠

-The smell of gas, perfumes, toxins, etc bother you⁠
-You are sensitive to chemicals⁠
-You have chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, or autoimmune disease⁠
-You have known toxic exposure⁠
-You have genetic polymorphisms like MTHFR⁠

I recommend working with a practitioner as we have comprehensive tests to measure toxic body burden.⁠

Supplements I often use to help support detox are:⁠
- Milk thistle⁠
- NAC⁠
- NAD+⁠
- Glutathione⁠

Again, if you are currently trying to conceive, do not do a detox.⁠

NAC is safe, which has evidence to support decreased rates of miscarriage in the first trimester.⁠

1. Provide you with key nutrients for fertility (B vitamins, folate, choline, zinc, iron, omega 3s, and antioxidants). ⁠

2. Keep detox pathways open and running smoothly. ⁠

So, what do you eat?!⁠

🌱Healthy proteins at each meal⁠
🌱Indulge in veggies and fresh fruits (7-9 servings of veggies, 2-3 servings of fruit)⁠

Our mission at The Bump and Beyond is to bring about a postpartum revolution.⁠

The American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology updated their guidelines on optimizing postpartum care in May 2018, stating postpartum care should become an ongoing process, rather than a single encounter…. And all women should have contact with their provider within the first 3 weeks postpartum.⁠

Meanwhile insurance companies are lagging behind as they figure out how to reimburse providers for this care.⁠

Don’t wait for the system. Advocate for yourselves and get the help you need.⁠

Is that not the saddest stat you have ever read?!
The negative effects of loneliness on your health and energy are well-documented by science. Motherhood can be a very lonely time, especially for those with new babies or without family close by. And we know this can be even more pronounced in the era of Covid-19.⁠

Because research has shown moms are happier when they have social support, our best advice is to get out there and meet REAL people face-to-face as soon as possible after birth (safety first, though).⁠

We might be partial, but there is no better place to do this than !!

If you’re a new mom who needs new friends with babies, come see us at Anthus, join a breastfeeding support group, or search out activities where you can bring your baby along.

If you’re a seasoned mom who feels she doesn’t have time for friendships between kids, work, carpooling, your side-hustle, etc, then it’s time to re-prioritize. Do it for yourself, your family, and your mental health. Give yourself permission to set an example of self-care for your children, who are watching your every move (especially the future mamas).⁠
