Every July, we celebrate Disability Pride Month โ a time to honor the voices, strength, and resilience of people with disabilities, and to reflect on the passing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in July 1990.
This month reminds us: ๐ง Disabilities may be visible or invisible. ๐ Healing looks different for everyone. ๐โโ๏ธ And the mind-body connection is powerful.
Many people living with phantom limb pain, PTSD(S), or chronic trauma symptoms carry burdens that are often misunderstood or unseen. These experiences are real โ and they matter.
This is a helpful 5-Step Breathing Exercise to assist you with Pain & Anxiety Relief;
Step 1: Ground Your Body - Sit or lie down in a quiet space. Gently place one hand over your heart and one on your lower belly. Feel your body supported by the chair, bed, or floor beneath you.
Step 2: Inhale Calm - Breathe in slowly through your nose for a count of 4 (Imagine breathing in soft light, calm, or warmth). Hold for 2 seconds.
Step 3: Exhale Tension - Breathe out gently through your mouth for a count of 6 (As if youโre blowing out a candle). Let go of tension, tightness, or fear.
Step 4: Repeat & Affirm - Repeat the inhale-hold-exhale cycle 5 times. As you breathe, softly say (in your mind or out loud):
๐๏ธ โWith each breath, I calm my body.โ
๐๏ธ โWith each exhale, I release the pain.โ
Step 5: Rest in Stillness - After your last breath, rest in silence for 30โ60 seconds. Notice any warmth, tingling, or softening in the body. Thank yourself for showing up with compassion. ๐
And if you find yourself needing more support, Hypnosis can help! As a holistic, non-invasive approach, hypnosis taps into the subconscious mind to:
๐ง Retrain pain responses in the brain (for phantom pain)
๐ Gently process and release trauma (for PTSD/PTSS)
๐ Reduce anxiety and restore calm
๐ฉโ๐ฆฐ Support confidence, rest, and emotional healing ๐จโ๐ฆฑ
Not only this month, but always, I want to remind you that You are NOT broken. You are Whole! You are worthy and deserve to free yourself from discomfort!
If you or someone you care about is navigating pain, trauma, high blood pressure or emotional exhaustion, I invite you to explore hypnosis as a supportive path forward.
