"That's the spot!" — but what actually IS that?
That tender little lump your massage therapist finds? It's called a myofascial trigger point — a group of muscle fibers stuck in a contracted state that won't let go.
Here's why it happens:
Repetitive movements or prolonged sitting
Chronic stress your body is physically holding onto
Poor posture putting constant strain on the same muscles
Old injuries your body never fully released
The muscle loses circulation, waste builds up, and the fibers stay locked — sometimes sending pain to completely different parts of your body. (That headache might actually be your shoulders. 👀)
When I work on a trigger point, I'm using direct pressure and movement to override that contraction, flush out the buildup, and restore blood flow to the area. That "hurts so good" feeling? That's it releasing.
After 12 years on the table, I never get tired of that moment.
