The community is invited to attend the Governor’s Memorial Day Ceremony hosted by Gov. Josh Green on Monday, May 25 at 1 p.m. at the Hawaiʻi State Veterans Cemetery. The ceremony will honor and remember the brave service members who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation.

Let's talk about the importance of Memorial Day in the military community and how you can help someone who may be grieving.

Since some may be dealing with feelings of grief on Memorial Day, it is best to avoid saying "Happy Memorial Day". Instead ask "How are you doing today?" and understand they may not want to participate in activities. Letting someone know you are there for them makes a difference.

How do you sum up someone who leads the four Endeavors Cohen Clinics with such dedication, strength, and grace? For us, two words come to mind: Kristy Dean.

Kristy serves as the Regional Director for the Endeavors Cohen Clinics, and earlier this spring at Cohen Veterans Network’s annual meeting, she received the network’s highest individual leadership recognition: The Admiral Mullen Leadership Award.

This award honors a leader who demonstrates exceptional performance, inspires and supports staff, and builds meaningful community relationships - all qualities Kristy exemplifies every day.

Since joining the Cohen Clinics at Endeavors in 2021, Kristy has played an essential role in the clinics’ growth across the network. From guiding the continued expansion of the Texas clinics to leading the opening of our clinic in Mililani, her leadership has helped strengthen access to care for military families and veterans across multiple communities.

Most importantly, Kristy leads in a way that brings out the best in those around her. Her ability to motivate, support, and positively influence staff has left a lasting impact on our teams and the clients we serve.

Congratulations, Kristy, on this incredibly well-deserved recognition.

Today, on Military Spouse Appreciation Day, we honor the strength, sacrifice, and resilience of military spouses in our community.

Through deployments, transitions, and the many challenges of military life, military spouses continue to support their families and communities in countless ways.

We are especially proud to work alongside military spouses here at The Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic at Endeavors. Thank you for all that you do - today and every day.

Our Clinic Director, Dr. Holly Scanes, joined Wheeler Middle School’s Food Fest & Craft Fair this past Friday, and it was wonderful to see so many families and community members there!

Visitors who stopped by Dr. Scanes’ table had the chance to create a “breathing stick” - a simple DIY tool that helps children practice deep breathing and emotional regulation in a hands-on way.

Want to make one at home?

• Take a pipe cleaner, add 4–5 beads, and loop the ends.
• Place your fingers on one bead and inhale as you slowly move the bead across the pipe cleaner.
• Exhale as the bead reaches the other side.
• Repeat with each bead, keeping your breathing slow and steady.

This simple calming activity helps children visualize what deep breathing feels like while building healthy coping skills they can use anywhere.
