Wow. This year started out in such a valley y’all. Such a wilderness, if you will. Being out of commission the first few months, I felt so stuck in a fog and forrest. Crazy how the first book I was lead to read was Holy Moments, which opened with a story about a monk’s journey through the woods to a wiseman in the mountains, seeking restoration for his village.

And now, a second time this year I’ve been led to the mountains! The first for myself and personal reflection. This time with my closest loves and two of their besties. Our first little getaway to Massanutten!

With grand adventures and deeply meaningful interpersonal exchanges, totally building on last Sunday’s sermon of weathering storms and building on a strong Foundation — the expanse open wide, representing all that is possible. And birds’ eye views, bringing more and more clarity… and signs of a fresh start.

What a deep cleansing breath and dose of restoration indeed.

One week ago, our .rc25 girl took a hard hit. One cookie into her VBS volunteer day, she had a full-on encounter with anaphylaxis that could have well taken her life. But praise God, these blessed souls were there to swoop in.

The way they rallied around us was so humbling. Staying on the phone with me while they called 911 as she went faint… water and hugs and deep breaths and encouraging words as the medics took her… rallying all the campers to pray over us while we made our way to the hospital… bringing Katie’s car and belongings back home for us… dozens of texts to check in throughout the day and days after as she recovered.

Pictured here (from 2 days later) is just a small representation of the army that supported us that day… many that we have come to know over the years thanks to our dear friends the Gray’s and to ’s partnership with Life of Joy. Not even “our church” but one amazing community that has welcomed us in so many ways, with youth programs that have nurtured our kiddos quite deeply. So very grateful for our SPEP family. 🥰 And so very grateful for how God brought Katie through that day.

Between SPN and SPEP and Church at Severn Run and Lighthouse and LOJ partners and various other folks in between… More and more, I am seeing evidence of Big C Church coming together. I, for one, am so grateful we’re in this together!

16! Good-ness.
I can’t even call him a kid anymore.
Man hair, a manly appetite, a drivers permit, and taller than his father now!
Tell you what though.
The young man he’s becoming… makes me so dang proud. Kind, compassionate, trustworthy, responsible, treats people right…
Sure he’s got teenage mood and some choices that make me smh.
But boy is he leaning in… to the lessons, to his faith, to things that matter more. Growing in so many ways.
And lol - all with a simple lightness and darn good sense of humor.
So blessed by this kid.
Forever my boy.
