Andrea Sutrick Art Therapy LLC Create your calm, your clarity, your change. A picture is worth a thousand words. We don’t have to speak; the image can speak for us.

Creative In-Person or Online Therapy for adults in Florida who want a new way to... Conquer your anxiety, release your past & harness harmony in relationships thru Art Therapy, EMDR & Nature-Based approaches. No need to be an artist; it’s simply creating and seeing where the journey takes you. As a lifelong art maker, I find the stories, thoughts, and emotions behind images to be healing and uplifting. I have witnessed the benefits of art therapy with individuals who have survived trauma resulting from combat, abuse, incarceration, natural disaster, and as first responders; persons with substance use, depression, anxiety and other disorders. Art therapy helps people resolve conflicts, improve interpersonal skills, manage problematic behaviors, reduce negative stress, and achieve personal insight. Art therapy also provides an opportunity to enjoy the life-affirming pleasures of artmaking. Each person is unique and art therapy offers creative, tailored approaches to balance your body, mind, and spirit for healthy wellbeing. Andrea Sutrick is a Board-Certified Registered Art Therapist, EMDR Certified Therapist, Licensed Mental Health Counselor and National Certified Counselor. I completed my Master of Arts in Art Therapy and Counseling Degree with Honors from Saint Mary of the Woods College in Terre Haute, Indiana. I conducted research implementing A Body-Mind-Spirit Art Therapy Intervention for Stress Reduction in Firefighter Spouses. My training includes Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and mindfulness practices. I am a member of the American Art Therapy Association and Florida Art Therapy Association.

The cure for your own reconnection & healing in troubled times....

As part of a visual journaling practice in nature, get outdoors, inhale some fresh air and pine, shimmy-wade on colored rocks in a creek and let the art process and poetry speak...

“To Eternal Life, Pine Queen”

Splintered yellow, heavied crash
Bolted lightning came out of a flash
Floored all creatures, people around
Some froze
Some ran for covered ground
Jolted from her long-tapped roots
As her pine ancestors
Sap-sipped from her boots
Woodpecker heckled and fled up high
Gopher tortoises burrowed and lie
Beneath towering pine-barked trunks above
Her resin softened her resolve with love
As she pondered soils and sands below
Had become stripped and sifted
Til her scales of pinecones drifted
Plunging to the tea-stained Coldwater
Rejuvenating cold, clear creek wonder
Her rainbowed soul is evergreen
Now all her colors return
To eternal life, Pine Queen.

Sometimes I create art just for art’s sake. My favorite go-to in artmaking is found nature assemblage. On this day pictured below… the white bark of a sycamore had glittered the forest behind our camper in somewhere Indiana. I immediately foraged these materials in hope for a future creation for the Love ‘n Lights dinner.

However, I couldn’t resist putting the white bark to use, like uh, now. So, I scattered the bark before me and felt that a white peacock (also known as peafowl) needed to emerge. Sometime later, the peacock came to life. And just as life emerged, life was taken away as an impending storm stirred up winds that pushed and pulled the creation as it lay there on the ground.

I took a picture and it’s all I have left to recall this block of time, a moment of a flow experience. A slice of an afternoon where I made something simply for the sake of making.

My friends, with the heaviness of this week, these questions beckon me…

How can I make art when so much suffering is happening?
How can I trust in the hope of creativity?

That’s when my white peacock came forth to speak...

My Dear White Peacock, He speaks:

“While I am beloved by all
My grandeur so tall
Lauded for my outer beauty
And coveted for my rare purity
Valued $ 30 times more than my blue brother
Even as this plumage hurts one after another.

‘Cause on the surface all is dainty
Heads nodding before me vainly
As if delivered in a perfect bow
What if my tail can’t fan for their show?

‘Cause on my head a splay of crest
Feathers perfectly attuned to subtleties of zest
Behind these dark eyes I am seeing the truth
What if my caws aren’t heard at the polling booth?

‘Cause behind this graceful gait
Is picking up on the hate
Standing on my toes
What do I do when they come for my clothes?

‘Cause I need to scurry close-grounded
Even with my heart confounded
They trick-handed me something to eat
What if I choke on all this conceit?”

‘Cause I’m moved to train rattle my tail
Signaling to others this grand betrayal
For no one bird can be left behind
It’s time to find your tribe and in kindness align.”

Here's a sneak preview of the EMDRIA Conference 2025 (Session 648) Enhancing EMDR: Integrating Body Movement and Art for Trauma Reprocessing.

I'm thrilled to contribute to this body of work with fellow Art Therapists! I enjoy guiding people with art. Since we often get stuck in our heads, Art + Body Movements helps us shift out of our heads to gain balance in body, mind and spirit.

The EMDRIA Conference 2025 will be held September 12-14, 2025, in person at the Anaheim Marriott in Anaheim, California.

When was the last time, you spent a few minutes reflecting on something you’re looking forward to?

Something small or big?

Insert now: Expression through the creative arts… art, writing, dance and more.

Take time and help your inner helper. Enjoy my expression of this process as a poem and image.

“Are All Seen”

Dawn breaking with warming skies
A spectacular show lights and spreads with eyes
Finding crevices, ripples on water to land
Shimmering back in a dance of no end
Revealing a space that cannot be!

Beaches and mountains, so freely
Don’t happen upon Florida, no really
Creeks cannot with mountains chance
A reflection of beauty & confluence
Of snowy glaciers and salt breezes
Rocky peaks and tidal eases
Long-leaf pines barking with evergreens darkening
Tea-stained creeks so fresh
Briny, bubbling gulf waters don’t mesh.

Dawn reflects a future with surprise
Your home and life can be mesmerized
When life comes together
There’s no happenstance
All it asks is for you to take a chance
Reflect and view in spaces between
Where mountains, creeks, beaches are all seen.

How do you get out of your 🤔 ? I create outdoors, touching nature and arranging… just because nature heals. I then reflect by letting the image speak thru poetry. How do get inspired in nature?

“She speaks in the Pauses…”

From zero gravity, bare feet fell
Flattened to ground with grass to foretell
A choice to follow the noun of thought
Away from the perils of thinking fraught
With fears of the unknown
As white tumbled rock has shown
A challenge from this blank canvas
Stark from the suffering weight hands us here
To marvel and stroll open-minded near
Present with rocky shores now demand us
Towards nothing at all and something so small
Courageous hearts welcome the call
Seaweed strands glittered with broken shells
Smooth wood drifted among wafting wells
She emerges mindfully as though
Her existence pointing from years ago
A whisper of thought planted that seed
Of possibility and hope for truly indeed
She speaks in pauses between the laps
Of tidal waves breaking, exhaling perhaps
Dreams come to thoughts held in space
With settled mind and rested pace.

A great read about Art Therapy. As an Art Therapist, I am amazed by the mystery of this process that seems to defy simply talking our way through... but rather moving with action through pain to healing.

So many good points...
~You don't have to be good at art to benefit. It's not about the product but the process.
~The process is collaborative and responsive.
~Art therapy can help ALL ages, young and adult since you're tapping into your creativity. A skill we all possess in crafting our everyday lives.
