It’s a big day, night, week...dare I say...month(s)?!...for our country, world...and your growing family, Mama.

It’s unnerving, potentially scary, unsettling and exhausting. No matter where you see yourself in the spectrum of politics, including those ignoring it all...the air is tense, the energy is stiff and the country’s vibe is uneasy.

It’s hard to ignore it. It’s everywhere. It’s most likely infiltrated your life at pretty deep levels and tonight it’s at its climax.

Maybe it’s bringing up concern for you about your growing family, causing you to have deep conversations about your morals, values and beliefs. Maybe it’s making you rethink how you’ll want to raise your child, what ways you’ll chose to educate him/her and how you’ll teach them of this time in history when they’re ready to learn about it. Or maybe you’ve already been having these tough convos with your babe in the womb.

Yet, tonight, when you’re feeling the pull to stay vigilant to the numbers, listen to the incoming stats and check your IG...try and pull yourself back inwards. Place your hand on your belly, other hand on your heart. Deep breaths. Picture somewhere peaceful, calming, soothing. Make an herbal tea, put your feet up (better yet, have someone rub them) and soak in a warm bath. Bring your attention back to you, your baby and your partner. Bring it home. Spend these last moments before YOUR intimate world is about to change...being present with what’s right in front of you. It’s your relationship to yourself, your baby and your partner that deserve your energy, Mama. Turn off, tune it out and tune in...to YOU.

First of all...you’re normal in this experience, Mama. So many mothers say they feel lost in their motherhood journey, questioning who they are since becoming a mama.

While these feelings are big and real, there’s actually some tangible steps you can take to begin getting in touch with your pre-motherhood self again. While you’ll never “be the same” once becoming a mother, you have an incredible opportunity to intentionally + organically grow yourself into someone new, magical and vastly expansive than you ever could have imagined pre-motherhood.

It’s messy discovering who YOU are becoming once you’ve become a Mama. It’s about marrying aspects of your pre-motherhood self with this new self you’re growing. There isn’t a “quick fix” to this time of transition, Mama.

But there are some steps you can take to begin the process with intention.

Check the link in bio and sign up to receive your free Mama’s Modern Village Pre-Motherhood Me workbook that has tips and activities to help you on your transition from woman to mother.

We’re really excited to have joined her in collaboration as she launched her “Mama and Me by Loren B” box and now she’s extending the offer for this course to mamas who didn’t purchase the entire box...simply bc she knows how crucial it is to have some love and support during those early years of motherhood. She’s offering our course now thru 12pm EST tomorrow at a huge discount!

Oh it’s so so good for us to just let it all be free!

Let’s talk some of the “perks” (no pun intended!):
•they might get perk-ier b/c your muscles will begin doin’ the work to support them!
•your circulation gets a much deserved boost.
•you could sleep better at night...zzz.
•improve overall breast health...why not?!

So let’s start a bra-free movement + embrace the beauty that is our feminine bodies. Going bra-free, loving our curves + seeing every inch of ourselves as “just right”.

As a trauma therapist for nearly a decade, I’ve been honored to listen to some of the most rawest of human experiences, horrific trauma stories, my clients have shared with me over the years. But even more so, I’ve been simply in awe of the incredible resiliency that’s evolved from them.

But what we’re experiencing now, isn’t “just a fleeting pandemic” that will “be gone just as quick as it came”.

No, no. The effects of this are much deeper + profound. They’re scaring + soul shaking for some, leaving some people feeling out of control, disoriented, fearful + untrusting. For some, this pandemic is...a trauma.

It’s everything from the media to your kids being home. Your routine has been completely lost and your support system moved to FT. You’re shelves are stocked while the grocery store is empty. There’s a darkness around the lost lives + a worry and concern of those continuing to work the front lines.

For some, thoughts go to places of darkness too; like “I’m not safe” or “I can’t do this”. All of which are thoughts that evolve when someone has experienced a trauma.

And then there are the feelings/emotions that are quick to follow. Grief, fear, anxiety, depression, loss of control.

It’s all there. This pandemic is a trauma. (Granted some people wont experience it this way, but for others...this is their reality.)

The effects of this will last, not only globally, economically and systemically, but individually + personally. An adjusted baseline and mode of operating will become our new “normal” + some will adapt and bounce back more quickly than others. We will all react differently to this global trauma + therefore require different support and understanding from those around us.

Just proceed with caution for yourself and those you love, never guessing how someone is “dealing” with this. Rather w/ compassion + deep understanding that this is unique to each of us, yet, we’re in this together.

“He/she just wants to spend some more time with you.” I can’t tell you how many times I’ve said that to parents who have brought their child in to work with me in therapy. They want more mom and dad time. It’s a symptom of a lack of connection and...too many scheduled activities, too much school work and homework...just too much. They crave connection and attachment.

And this crisis is giving way for just that, if we let it. If we embrace the ever fleeting moments of stillness and, dare I say, boredom, with a new profound sense of deep gratitude for an opportunity to reconnect and re-attach...the benefits will be tenfold. For generations to come. We can turn this ship around and make lasting changes from this abrupt detailing of what used to be our “normal” day to day.

It’s made my heart so happy to see how many FAMILIES are outside playing together. How many moms and dads are riding bikes with their kids and how many kids are simply...just outside.

It’s an opportunity for kids to be kids again! For us to become wild and free. For us to attune ourselves to one another, especially these youngsters who undeniably need a break from an overscheduled and stressful life themselves.

So spend time together. Reconnect and reattach. It’s so so good for kids these days. And our future depends on these kids.

Hearts beating faster. Breaths are shorter. Minds are racing. Thoughts are intruding. All normal when you’re feeling out of control. And this situation has so many of us feeling just that. Out. Of. Control.

So here’s to slowing down. Releasing all expectations and desire for perfectionism. It’s time to reconnect with ourselves and indeed circle back round to the slower pace of life we’re actually intended to be living.

Bake. Cook. Breathe. Sew. Read. Journal. Watch movies. Sip, don’t chug. Take a bath. Play with your kids hair. Put lotion on. Color. Snuggle. Breathe. Start a hobby. Get rid of sh*t in your closet. Nap. Tell stories, of yes, tell stories. Breathe.

In crisis, we get sucked in and our body feels it. So slow down. Slow down. Stretch. Drink water. And breathe.

Get creative and daydream about what this forced change could mean for your life in the long term.

You’re being forced into learning another way of living. And it’s actually probably healthier for us to slow down, get out of the rat race and just breathe for a minute. Let’s see what changes in your life you’ll begin to really love.

Look for that silver lining. And focus on that.
