I like my America seasoned. Spicy, even.
Why water it down? Why dull it?
Make it flavorful.
Make it robust.

I like my America diverse, not divided.
I want an endless array of accents crackling
and time honored traditions.
Why shouldn’t you be proud of who you are
and where you’re from??

I like my America colorful and kaleidoscopic,
quilted with cultures.
Where we all sit at the same table.
Where we all dance to each other’s music.
Where we learn to say, “I’m grateful you’re here”,
in whatever language it takes for them to know it.
To feel it.

Bring your heritage, your lineage,
your ancestry, and heart.
Bring your stories, your wildest dreams,
your creativity and fiery spirit.

Everything you’re made from,
everything you’re made of - bring it.
I like my America better with all of us in it.

our community is grieving a deep loss.
Janell was a dedicated hospital midwife and unwavering advocate for Black maternal health. her care was unparalleled. it was a joy + honor to work alongside her the last few years.

honoring her means more than mourning. it means continuing to speak, protect, and show up for Black birthing people in the ways she did and stepping up to support her family just as she supported other families every single day. may her work continue to ripple forward

an immense loss 💔
to know her was to love her. you’ll be so missed Janell.

I woke up this morning with my heart and my mind still heavy.
I keep asking myself how someone who dedicated her young life to delivering over 100 babies did not make it through giving birth to her first child. It just does not make sense to me. At all.

I am not questioning God, but this is heartbreaking. This is heavy. This is the kind of loss that sits with you and refuses to leave.

Dr. Janell, you mattered. Your life mattered. Your work mattered. And none of what you poured into this world will be in vain. Your legacy lives in every mother you supported, every baby you helped bring earthside, and every life you touched along the way.

We will continue to speak your name.
We will continue to honor your work.
And we will continue to fight for the kind of world where stories like this no longer happen. 🕊️

23 families served
11 hospital births, 12 home births
13 girls, 10 boys
6 babies + 4 mamas received bodywork
0 cesareans, 4 vbacs, 3 repeats, 1 three-peat (🥹)

this year marked my re-entry into birth work after welcoming my third baby of my own. i (slowly + intentionally) took my first client in April, re-learning how to hold this work alongside motherhood in a new way.

other honorable mentions of this year:
• hosted our first village prenatal gatherings with .it.grow.doula
• completed my craniosacral therapy training !!!!
• cutie gifts from clients
• a very doula-coded tattoo, duh

i am endlessly honored to be invited into these sacred spaces. birth continues to humble me, expand me, and remind me just how special this work truly is 🌀
