Thank a Cocker Spaniel this Thanksgiving!

On the Mayflower

Spaniels in America can be traced back to 1620 and the landing of the Mayflower, which carried two dogs on the voyage to New England, a mastiff and a spaniel. In those days spaniels were divided into two varieties, land and water spaniels. From those early specimens come the many varieties of spaniels we have today.

You are welcome, Kelti

Last night was a great night for me as a DNA Detective. I have on each side of me a daughter and a father whom I have united through the use of DNA and genealogy research. Cari, Wilbur and I and other friends and family met last night and celebrated our friendship and the bringing together of these two family members. And by the way, this relationship was verified and validated through a completely independent paternity test at a local hospital.

We are pleased to introduce to you a new addition to the team. She is Danielle Noblet – but she is fondly called Dani. She brings to us much enthusiasm, skills in internet marketing and a love for solving mysteries. Dani is new to the subject of genealogy but is already digging up family histories and we are so happy to have her with us. [ 173 more words ]

Recently found the birth father for a woman who will be 50 years old soon. We used her DNA and followed the matches. I am so pleased that both father and daughter are VERY happy to now know each other. Things like this make me love my work. Just sayin'....

DNA is, from a genealogical viewpoint, the “glue” or “proof” one needs in solving a real family mystery. The photo at left is my maternal Grandpa - Henry Stevenson. He was a foundling – that is, an infant who is found after its unknown parents have abandoned it. He was born in California in 1905 and was, to my knowledge found somewhere in California and turned over to an orphanage. [ 999 more words ]

One big lesson I learned in 1980, was to communicate. I always ask myself first: “why not”? And I think of a 20/20 TV show from the Spring of 1980 which featured Frank Serpico. He was in America and was risking his life, being here and speaking out. I had admired him, his honesty and guts ever since I saw the movie about his story. [ 726 more words ]

My latest posting....I will start catching up with what has been happening lately. We have been SUPER busy this past year tracking down lost relatives, finding past friends and of course researching family histories...

It is sad when a close friend or relative passes.  They are missed.  I was honored to have the opportunity to research the heritage of a person who recently passed.  I was able to create a nice tribute to give to family members as a way to help them remember. This will, hopefully, give them …

Today I had lunch with these two. This was a very happy lunch. Jill, who is on the left is from Australia and Sharon, who is on the right lives right here in Gardnerville (She is the owner/editor of Horse Tales Publications). They are 1/2 sisters and had never met until this visit from Jill. Last year I helped Sharon track down her sister. And today we all had lunch together. Most times this job is VERY rewarding. Makes me smile.
