In honor of National Herbalist Day, celebrated on April 17th, we will be posting information on Chinese herbal medicine this month! Today's Herb is: Shan Zha 山楂
Chinese herbal medicine, a key component of Traditional Chinese Medicine, has been practiced for over 2,000 years. It uses natural substances like roots, leaves, seeds, minerals, and occasionally some animal-derived compounds that are combined into formulas tailored to each individual’s needs. Traditional Chinese herbal medicine operates very differently from taking one single herb or ingredient. The multi-herb formulas are designed to work together and influence multiple physiological pathways at the same time.
