We were fortunate to capture Dr. Micah Nieboer suiting up for his first official surgery as a consultant at Mayo Clinic in Rochester!

Fellowship-trained in shoulder and elbow orthopedic surgery, Dr. Nieboer is no stranger to Rochester. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency here and was mentored by many of the exceptional consultants on our staff. He’s passionate about delivering comprehensive, tailored care for patients across all age groups.

We’re delighted to continue welcoming the outstanding physicians who have joined our department in the latter half of 2025. Our most recent addition is hand surgeon Dr. Lauren Tagliero!

Tagliero completed both her residency and hand fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, and has come full circle—now working alongside the very colleagues who helped train her. She brings a limitless passion for helping patients regain function and return to the activities that matter most to them.

Recently, we welcomed Dr. Kyle Duchman to our orthopedic practice in Rochester! Dr. Duchman is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine, with particular interest in knee, foot & ankle, and shoulder injuries.

In August, we were honored to capture his first surgical case at Mayo Clinic. 📸

We were fortunate to celebrate the remarkable career of Dr. Harold Kitaoka at the Mayo Foundation House this past weekend.

Over 38 years at Mayo Clinic, Dr. Kitaoka has been a true pioneer in foot and ankle surgery. Early in his career, he established one of the nation’s most respected research programs in foot and ankle biomechanics, laying a foundation that continues to influence the field today.

To echo the words of the our first Department Chair, Dr. Melvin Henderson, “The deepest reward is not the number of cases performed, but the bonds formed in service—with colleagues, trainees, and patients.”

Dr. Kitaoka’s career embodies this spirit wholeheartedly. He has certainly left an enduring mark on our department and on the many patients and colleagues whose lives he’s touched.

Please join us in expressing our deepest gratitude and warmest congratulations to Dr. Kitaoka as he retires and begins his next chapter.
