I’ve been listening, reading, learning and observing the past couple weeks, since the tragic death of George Floyd. Feeling the grief, anger and deep social unrest that hit our city, and expanded throughout the world.
Asking some hard questions of myself and family. Examining and recognizing my ignorance of systemic racism and also my white privilege. I’m committed to educating myself, to be and do better.
Behind the scenes I’m finding ways I can put my good intentions into action. To combat racism, create change, justice and racial equality.
We’ve started within our home, having open and honest conversations with our 6 year old about racism and what happened to George Floyd- allowing her to witness and experience the grief and anger in our city (and the uniting that has followed).
Daily conversations with my husband, extended family, friends and teachers about how we will actively move forward with anti-racism, anti-racism parenting and who we raise.
I know this is just the beginning. There is a lot of work ahead of us to collectively create a more just and inclusive society.
Seeing our city come together, work for, LOVE and care for each other these past few weeks gives me hope that we’re in this together to create change!
As so perfectly said “Our righteous acts create immeasurable ripples on the endless river of justice”.
