Kisses for Kenzie

Kisses for Kenzie This is Kenzie's heart journey. She's the perfect combination of princess and warrior.

Follow us along on this incredible roller coaster ride. Team Kisses For Kenzie was started in honor of our warrior, Kenzie Caitlyn. Kenzie was born on May 22, 2015, with multiple heart conditions, including Complete Heart Block (why she needs her permanent pacemaker), Cardiomyopathy (Heart Failure), and Atrial Septal Defect. The first of her 3 heart surgeries was when she was only a few hours old and weighed just over 4lbs. Three months later, she developed a severe form of Neonatal Lupus, which caused painful open wounds all over her body. At that same time, Kenzie also went into heart failure and was in the hospital for several months. The doctors felt they were backed into a corner and that heart transplant was going to be the only option. Luckily, Kenzie held on and pushed through without having to go that route. Because of the heart failure, Kenzie had a feeding tube placed, which she used until she was 3.5 years old. She has spent many many months in the hospital over the course of her almost 7 years of life, and unfortunately, the hospital stays are not over for her, as we were just told that she will need another surgery very soon. We cannot thank the entire Children's Hospital staff for everything they have done to repeatedly save Kenzie's life.

And she’s DONE with recovery!! Thank you thank you THANK YOU to everyone for all of your thoughts, prayers, gifts, cards, and love throughout the entire process! It all truly means the world to all of us!

Recovery with an almost 7 year old, who is normally very active, sure isn’t easy, but we made it through! Kenzie had had movie nights, did a lot of arts and crafts, played games, baked with friends, went to a couple movies in the theater, visited SeaQuest, worked on reading and writing, hit up Dave & Busters a couple times, cheered on the Twins, walked around the mall, and more!

Kenzie is now able to ease into being her normal self again! She has been very patiently waiting to be able to do recess and gym at school, along with her weekly gymnastics class!

Thank you all so much again for the love and encouragement! You all are simply the BEST!! ❤️‍🩹

We are HOME!!! We cannot tell you all how great it feels to get Kenzie home and recovering. The next 6 weeks of no activity will be interesting with our wild gal, but luckily we have lots of books, games, coloring books, crafts, and trips to the zoo and aquarium in store! Thank you all so much for continuing to cheer Kenzie on in her journey! We are so so lucky to have each one of you as part of the family! We cannot thank the entire CVCC staff at Children's Minnesota enough for taking such amazing care of our girl throughout every step. Dr. Moga is a cardiological magician, and we just LOVE him. Him and Kenzie have a special bond that we are so thankful for too. She is one incredibly strong girl and we are so proud of her! Now onto eating Uncle Jeremy’s soup and more FaceTime with her “fur sister”, Omni! 🍀❤️ Jessica Baker Matt Lund Reed Goodman

🙌🏼🙌🏼Big day today🙌🏼🙌🏼 Kenzie (and her X-rays) finally convinced Dr. Moga to take her chest tube out after dealing with days of a collapsed lung, walked all by herself (no holding hands) around the CVCC unit, painted some more projects, and finally felt like eating some food!!!….. There’s also some rumors that we might be able to bust out of here TOMORROW!!!!🤞🏼🤞🏼Jessica Baker Reed Goodman Matt Lund

“Kenzie Bear” says we need everyone to PRAY FOR P*E! It’s been another long and exhausting day for our girl. Started the morning off with a straight catheter, after a couple failed attempts at going on her own. A lot of urine came out with that but she hasn’t been able to go since. She hasn’t had much interest in eating or drinking but we are working hard on that, starting with some IV fluids overnight.

She went for one tiny little walk this morning, which was HUGE for her recovery, but has since has been in quite a bit of pain throughout the rest of the day and not really interested in much movement. We all wouldn’t want to do much either with that pesky chest tube still in! Mentally and physically, Kenzie is just done for today and that is A-OK! She got a good long nap in and ate some meatballs tonight and we are happy with that!

Baby steps are still steps, and we are so proud of her! This girl’s determination and fight shine through every step of her recovery! She simply does not give up and is INSANELY STRONG! Tomorrow is a new day for more strength and steps on the road to recovery! 💪🏼💪🏼 Jessica Baker Reed Goodman Matt Lund

What a long, hard day for our sweet Kenzie girl. Overall, everything went good with a few hiccups along the way. Luckily her team is on top of it and we are finally on the road to recovery now. And, in true Kenzie fashion, nothing can stop this girl from being a DIVA (i.e. the last photo). 🦄💁🏼‍♀️

Thank you all from the very bottom of our hearts for EVERYTHING you all have done to get us through today. The many texts, calls, posts, photos, cards, gifts, and words of encouragement have been the only thing to help all of us get through with so much strength. Without you all and your support, our team would not be nearly as strong. We are forever grateful ❤️

Love to you all as we try to get Kenzie some much needed rest! Reed Goodman Matt Lund
