To all the beautiful Black women out there who may be struggling with their mental health during the Thanksgiving holiday:
I see you. The holidays can be a complicated time—there’s pressure to be joyful, to hold space for others, to carry the weight of traditions. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed, disconnected, or even invisible in a season that’s supposed to bring warmth and gratitude. But your mental health is just as important as anyone else’s, and it’s okay to not feel okay.
Remember that it’s okay to step back, to set boundaries, and to prioritize your well-being. You deserve moments of peace, rest, and self-care. You don’t have to fit anyone’s expectations, and you don’t need to carry the emotional labor of everyone around you. Take time to honor yourself, to breathe, and to give yourself the grace you freely give to others.
If you’re feeling isolated, know that there are people who care, even if it doesn’t always feel like it. It’s okay to reach out for support, to ask for help, or to take the time you need for yourself. You are worthy of love, compassion, and rest.
This holiday season, take a moment to reflect on the strength and resilience that you carry, not just for others, but for yourself. You are enough. You are not alone. And your mental health matters.
