🏆 Valerie Garden, MD '89. 👀 Dr. Garden recently received the Legacy Award from Operation Access for 10 years of volunteer ophthalmology services, 55 procedures donated to patients who otherwise couldn't afford care.

Her take on why she does it? "Surgery is completed, the patch comes off, and patients regain their freedom and independence."

AUC partnered with the Positive Foundation and Sint Maarten's Ministry of Public Health, Social Development, and Labor to host a free breast health screening event in Philipsburg, and the results speak for themselves. 💗​

756 women have been served so far, with a goal of reaching 1,000, while more than 250 students gained hands-on clinical experience working alongside faculty and fellows at the event.​

Some advice never gets old. 🎙️ Adam Stivala, MD '16, returned to AUC as our Summer 2026 White Coat Ceremony keynote speaker and reminded the Class of 2030 that the best physicians aren't just skilled, they're human. 💛​

From fashion catalogs to the operating room, Ashley Jordan, MD '15, took a leap of faith that changed everything. 🩺✨ ​

After watching her mom battle breast and lung cancer, she left a successful career in fashion and found her true calling in medicine. 💙 AUC gave her the foundation, and she did the rest. "They gave me the chance. They gave me the opportunity to just fly." ​

Now a partner at a plastic surgery practice, Dr. Jordan shows up every day to help her patients feel whole again.​

This National Volunteer Week, we're celebrating the alumni who show up for our students, because they remember what it felt like to be in their shoes. 🩺 Nick Palagonia, MD '24, is an Emergency Medicine Resident at St. Joseph Hospital, and alongside his residency, he's giving back to the AUC community that helped get him there. 🥼

As a first-generation medical student, Dr. Palagonia knows firsthand how hard the road can be without a guide. Now, he's becoming that guide for others. 💙
