Sometimes the most important conversations about speech and language don’t happen in a therapy room.

They start like this.

Two moms talking.
Asking questions
Sharing stories about their kids.
Talking about what’s working… and what feels hard.

As a speech therapist and a mom, I love having these conversations. I love having people who will listen, and I love being the one to listen too.

Because when parents feel heard and supported, we can work together to help children communicate and thrive. 💬

You never have to navigate your child’s development alone.

🩵 If you’ve ever wondered about your child’s speech or language, reach out anytime.

It’s comfortable… and that’s the problem. 👀

My son does this ALL the time.
And yes, I correct it every single time.

I learned this from the PTs I work alongside 🙌 and now as an SLP, I’m always watching for it.

Because I care about your child’s overall development. Not just their speech. 🧠💛

W-sitting gives kids a wide base of support, so their core muscles don’t have to work very hard. Over time, that can impact posture, balance, and coordination.

Strong core muscles help kids sit, focus, and use their hands well.

At our house, I just say:
“Fix your legs.” 💬

Switch to:
✔️ Criss-cross
✔️ Legs straight out

Small shift. Big impact. 💪

Save this for playtime 🔖

🛌💤 This is why I love this book:

It’s repetitive.
It’s predictable.
And it’s perfect for vocabulary growth. 🙌🏻

When kids hear similar words over and over in the same context, their vocabulary grows naturally.

And because this book repeats the same pattern, they can start filling in the last word on their own.

You can also expand it by:
✨ Talking about synonyms for sleeping (napping, snoozing, dozing, resting)
✨ Describing (tiny flea → big dog → crowded bed)
✨ Making FUN wake-up sounds when everyone tumbles out of bed 💥😆

Everyday reading = everyday language.

You don’t need to do more or buy more to build your child’s language.

Just use the moments you’re already in. 🤍

Emptying the dishwasher is speech therapy. 🍽️
Cooking dinner is language development. 🥣
Getting ready for the day is early intervention. 🏡

Everyday routines build everyday language.

Talk about what you're doing while you're doing it.
Talk about what your child is doing.
Add describing words.
Give a direction and them a chance to follow.

That’s how language grows. 🌱
In real life.
At home.
Without extra time.
With you.

We are reading together…
and suddenly socks were on hands. 🧦

That’s the power of a good toddler book.

Blue Hat, Green Hat = instant participation.

Repetition. Humor. “Oops!”
And now we’re practicing:

🟢 Colors
🧦 Clothing
🖐 Body parts
😂 Social language

If your child loves to be silly, this is your book!

Save for your next library trip. And tell me what funny books your child likes to read! 📚

Pick a moment that’s naturally happening at home. Add some language and turn it into speech therapy. 🏡💜

Start with the action:
“March!”

Repeat the word several times. Add different contexts. March to music. March to the front door. March in a band. Pause to give them an opportunity to imitate you.

Then build language by adding another word or two:
“I’m marching!” 🥁
“You’re marching!”
“Marching fast!”
“Marching to music!” 🎶

That’s language expansion.
You take what they’re doing (or saying)… and add words.

Verb first.
Then grow the sentence.

No special toys needed!

👇 Try it tonight and tell me what action word you practiced.

Part 2: More outdoor verbs for your toddler 🌿☀️

Want to continue growing those action words?

Keep walking, and keep talking. This time model some sensing verbs while interacting with your environment:

Scatter the sand. 🪏
Crunch the leaves. 🍂
Splash the puddle. 💦
Blow the dandelion. 🌬
Smell the flowers. 🌸

At 18–24 months, action words stick best when they can feel them.

That’s how language grows. 💛

👇 Save this for your next walk and try 3 new verbs today. Tell me which action words your child has the most fun with.

We’re so lucky here in California that we can get outside almost year round. ☀️🌿

And outside is FULL of language opportunities. As a speech therapist, I am always thinking about ways to add language to everyday activities to help littles grow.

On a simple walk, you can:
Narrate what your child is doing.
Model different actions for your child to imitate.
Imitate actions that your child is doing.
Play a game- say an action and all do it.

Verbs (action words) are powerful. They help toddlers start putting words together and talk about what’s happening right now.

And when words are connected to movement?
They stick. 💪🏻

Outside isn’t a break from learning.
It IS learning. 🧠✨

👇 Save this and try adding 3 action words the next time you go for a walk.

Shared moments = connection.
Connection = language growing.💜

You don’t have to read every word.

Find a book with pictures in place of words, sound buttons or a book with a repetitive line. You read, and then you pause. Give your child an opportunity to fill in, to finish the sentence, to read WITH you. 📚💫

👇 Save this for tonight’s bedtime reading and see what happens.

02/13/2026

You don’t need a toy aisle of stuff to build language. 🛒🏀

In five seconds you’ve created opportunity for:
✨ turn taking
✨ waiting
✨ action words
✨ position words
✨ cheering each other on

“Shoot!”
“In!”
“Aim!”
“Missed it!”
“Again!”

Get kids engaged, and language comes easier.

Sharing some Valentine-themed books my toddlers and preschoolers love ❤️📚

As an SLP, I’m always looking for fun books on theme that also promote language growth. I love these because they rhyme and use repetitive phrases, which means your child can start to fill in the words once they’re familiar.

Start the sentence, then pause, and let your child finish the phrase or fill-in the word. 💬

Repetition builds confidence. Rhymes build sound awareness. And predictable phrases help little ones join in, even if they’re not saying many words yet. ✨💕

Save this for your next library trip and comment Valentine’s for the books 👇

We follow the child’s lead… 💫
Sometimes that takes us outside.
Sometimes that means jumping on a trampoline.

Connection always comes first. 🤍

Connection leads to smiles and laughter. 😄
From shared enjoyment comes engagement. ✨
And from engagement come more opportunities for communication. 💬

Forget the table.
Forget the toys.

Movement creates moments 💫🏃‍♀️ communication 💬
