Dakota Jayne was born October 9, 2012 at only 24 weeks! I (mom) am 35 years old and have spent my entire life praying for a baby, but being told by doctors that I am just not going to be able to conceive. I adopted my daughters (now 18 & 17) when they were still young. They are now amazing, almost, adults. In 2012 I discovered that I was actually pregnant! I was terrified and the doctor made sure
that I knew not to get my hopes up. My body would surely reject the pregnancy. At 19 weeks I went on upside down bed rest. That was terrible, but nothing compared to the thought of losing this child. At 24 weeks, 3 days (109 days early) I went into labor with my sweet baby girl. The doctor assured me that she wouldn't cry, at this age the lungs aren't developed, but that didn't mean that she wouldn't live. SHE CRIED! The doctor was so shocked that he yelled out as well! He admitted later that he almost dropped her. He walked past me with a baby that was nestled in the palm of one hand! She was only 1 lb, 6oz and 8 inches long! We went through several surgeries, over two feet of intestines removed and spent 129 days in Neonatal Intensive Care. At 23 months old she was diagnosed with a rare syndrome called Dandy Walker. It is another battle that we must face and conquer. Dakota Jayne started off as a fighter and will continue on as a fighter! By the grace of God, we will defeat Dandy Walker!
