My partner and I moved to Missouri City in 2021. We found the perfect home, which our two dogs Sascha and Mishka enjoy the backyard just as much as us. If anyone has golfed the La Quinta course, I'm sure Sascha and Mishka have said hello to you. Quail Valley is a beautiful community with the best neighbors in the world. It is a blessing to call this place "home." Prior to moving to Missouri City, TX, I grew up in a small rural town in the State of Missouri. It's funny, when my father visited us to see our new home, he made the observation that I grew up in the "Show Me State" of Missouri off Highway 6, and now I live in the "Show Me City" off Highway 6. I guess it was both fate and the desire to find a place that felt like home that brought us here. I am running for our Quail Valley Fund (QVF) Board of Trustees because I want to be a voice for our community. I have never been a person to expect others to make the changes and do the work for me. Instead, I get involved to share my ideas and experiences to help others. This is just how I was raised back home. Bring people together, help your neighbors, and work to find common ground to achieve common goals. I have a robust list of ideas that I wish to explore with our community. When people attend our HOA meetings asking their elected representatives questions or for help, a simple answer is not enough. There are many ways to address an issue, and sometimes it takes the extra initiative to convene small groups of people, strategize with others not normally engaged in the conversation, and agree on a way forward. I am a graduate of Truman State University, a public liberal arts and sciences university in Missouri, where I received my BA in Political Science. Following graduation, I began my career as a union representative for the American Federation of Teachers of Missouri (AFT Missouri). In 2007, I moved to Texas continuing my career with the Texas AFT. Texas AFT represents 66,000 educators, support professionals, and higher education faculty and we seek to promote the rights of public school employees while advocating to protect public education. I am a true advocate for public education and working people. Now after celebrating 20 years with our union, I currently serve as the Director of Operations, where I oversee multiple statewide projects to advance the work of our union. My work also involves creating a new Human Resources division after completing my Certificate in Human Resource Management at the University of Texas-Austin and passing my SHRM-SCP exam. My partner Chris is the CEO and Broker of his own real estate company, Chris Christopher Properties, and he is a member of the Campaign Board for Houston's Victory Fund. Together, we help co-sponsor an annual fundraising event called Pet Pics in the Park, which supports Avenue 360 Healthcare's Omega House. Omega House is a nonprofit providing hospice services for people with HIV/AIDS. Our next event is coming up on March 25. Learn more at www.petpicsinthepark.org. I am also involved in activities across the state. I currently serve as a member of the board of directors for Texas Pride Impact Funds and the Bering Asset Board for Omega House. Formally, I served as a board members for AIDS Foundation Houston, New Leaders Council-Austin, and as president of The Diana Foundation, a nonprofit recognized as America's oldest active gay organization.
