On Thanksgiving of last year, text me to tell me she’s considering running a marathon. With not much thought other than “if she’s doing this, I’m doing it with her” and we were signed up within days! But of course we didn’t just sign up for a sea level, flat road with some hills type of course…Go big or go home right?
Yesterday at 6am in the beautiful mountains of Utah at almost 10k elevation we took off on what would be one of the most incredible, and obvisouly very challenging experiences! Sunrise in the mountains, sights of free roaming cows, mountain landscapes everywhere. Rolling hills, down hill, trail running, road running, we got a little bit of everything!
THANK YOU to my family who supports my crazy ideas, believes in me and most importantly helps with the girls so I could get my training in! Thanks to all my friends who have been cheering me on and never letting me give up on training or this goal! And of course a huge thank you to Britt for being the reason we just accomplished something that only 1% of the people in the world do!
I have always enjoyed running but I used to say, “I will NEVER run a marathon.” The training felt impossible. 26.2 miles always sounded crazy.
Some how, some way I made this happen during one of the most mentally challenging years of my life, but running was everything I needed this year. So here’s the reminder a lot of us need: you can do anything you set your mind to. It will take grit and sacrifice. It will test your mental and physical toughness in ways you never imagined, but you CAN!
Goal 1: Cross the finish line ✔️
Goal 2: Run it in under 4:30✔️ (official time 4:26:19.3)
26.2, till we meet again (maybe😅)
Now time to recover and set some new goals!
