What a day!
With only two things planned it flowed into abundance.
Started with Tessa King and Andrew King loading the trailer with appliances and furniture.
The plan was dropping off at Sofas for Service, Inc. and the appliance store.
In the meantime connected with a homeless Veteran again with another housing resources.
He had reached out a month ago for help and support. Even with motivation and temporary housing (one week), he wasnt having any luck.
Today he called with good news. Found an apartment with possible move in a week or 1st of the month.
The apartments he has wanted for a long time. And the area he wanted.
I told him he held the vision and it is coming to fruition.
Told him I would pick him up and he could connect with Sofas for Service to help furnish his apartment.
He came with. Him and Jeff talked Harleys.
He headed to the next stop and he happened to ask if the appliances on my trailer were available.
I said the appliances and the furniture were his, if he found a place to keep it.
We had only drove a couple of blocks, so I pulled into kwik trip.
I went in to go to the bathroom, get coffee, and then come out and get gas, while he made calls.
No luck, but he was willing to find a storage place if needed.
I suggested we go back and ask Jeff. That is what we did. So he now has a washer and dryer, some chairs and stands to go in hid new place.
Since we were done so quickly, he suggested driving by his new place. So we did.
One our way back through, we stopped at VFW Post 305 to drop of medical equipment I pick up at Sofas for Service. Work I do with non-profit Veterans Donor Connect.
The homeless Vet inquired about a walker he could sit down with. I said sure thing, all you had to do was ask.
He stated he wasnt used to getting so much support. I told him to get used to it.
No luck but at post for the type of walker he needed but VFW 7232 came through. Thanks to the Commander for his willingness to drive in on a Saturday to assist the Veteran.
See Monday this Veteran goes in for MRI and testing, so not at the stage to receive equipment through VA yet. Now he has what he needs to make it through.
We also checked out a project to help fix floor of a shed of Veteran B. With homeless Veterans skills and wanting to help, next week he will get to pay it forward and feel wanted to use his skills.
This was all in a few hours.
Before I had left home I dropped my daughter off at neighbors.
When I got home her and her cousin jumped in and included a stop to pick up a few groceries for lunch (since it was already 2pm), then Cold Stone Creamery for ice cream.
Got home to do the normal things. Finish laundry, work on presentation, pick up, bring in more wood, enjoy a visit from my son and his girlfriend.
And took calls in between. Today was about Oritorical Contest for Am. Legion.
How was your Saturday? Do what you had planned? Were you success?
I dont really think about all the things I do in a day. I thought I'd share after telling my son about all this and halfway through he says, "That was just today."
Not every days flows with this much abundance, but most days are this full of progress.
I live to serve and serve to live!
My kids see by example and that is the way I want it to be.
Now time for some shut eye with a lot of family time planned for tomorrow.
Thanks Melissa Walczak at Red House of Hope
for the appliance donation. Your intention of it going to a Veteran in need was a success.
