Do you have High Triglycerides, High Blood Pressure, and/or High Cholesterol in addition to Prediabetes?!

“Celebrate a World of Flavors” Month is a great opportunity to explore the Mediterranean style diet option for people with prediabetes!

Why? Because decades of evidence link the Mediterranean style diet with positive outcomes such as:

⬇️ Hemoglobin A1C
⬇️ Blood pressure
⬇️ Triglycerides
⬇️ LDL (“bad” cholesterol)

The Mediterranean Diet was the Best Overall Diet in 2022, 2021, 2020, 2019, and 2018, according to U.S. News & World Report.

The Mediterranean style diet is based on the various food traditions from countries that surround the Mediterranean Sea (countries/regions in Africa, Asia, and Europe). But you can still enjoy it with delicious, fresh, affordable foods from your local supermarket.

This week I will share some background on the Mediterranean style diet and a few practical tools you can use to experiment with this diet approach to manage prediabetes.

And don’t worry, if you are thinking, “well, how does the Mediterranean diet fit in with my low carbohydrate diet?!”, I’ve got you covered! Stay tuned…💁🏻‍♀️

Does you already follow Mediterranean style diet principals?
Have you heard of it?

When I was growing up, my family didn’t eat many culturally diverse foods. A salad in my house typically consisted of iceberg lettuce, cucumbers, and tomatoes. Can you relate?

When I was 21 years old, I was commissioned into the United States Air Force and lived throughout the USA and internationally. This is when I finally discovered opportunities to try new cuisines. Everything from okra and grits served in the cafeteria while I was training in Alabama to tasting olive oil sold on the side of a road while traveling through Crete.

Every year in March, my professional academy celebrates National Nutrition Month. This year’s theme, “Celebrate a World of Flavors”, showcases how flavors from cultures around the world is a tasty way to nourish ourselves and appreciate our diversity. We are all unique with different bodies, goals, backgrounds and tastes!

It is easy to get sucked into a boring diet rut when working towards reversing prediabetes. Throughout March, let’s talk about ways to spice things up by embracing the foods and flavors of your heritage and other global cultures. What are some of your favorite foods?
