This morning, we share the news that Amanda, our Senior Care Coordinator, will be leaving our office as of June to further her career at another animal hospital closer to home. We wish her luck in her future endeavors and want to remind her that she will always be part of the Katz & Dogs family! She will return to cover a single shift on Friday, June 13th. If you'd like to share any well wishes or key memories, we will have a black notebook at the front desk that she will take with her to have a physical reminder of her time here.

Happy Monday everyone! Memorial day is around the corner and Dexter already knows what he's planning to do!
Please be aware we will be CLOSED Saturday, May24th through Monday, May 26th. The office will resume normal hours on Tuesday, May 27th at 9am. If you have a medical emergency with your pet, please visit: VEG Route 3 in Clifton, NJ 201-438-7122.
Please take stock of your pet's medication, including any to help tolerate storms or fireworks. Calling in early THIS WEEK will ensure you are able to pick up your pets' refills before the fun begins. In addition, it is wise to make sure your pets ID tags are legible and/or microchip information is up to date if you've had a recent move or change of phone number. Ensure your pet is properly fitted with their harness or collar if attending ceremonies with fireworks. Memorial day and the 4th of July are common holidays where pets run away from home or slip their restraints due to sudden noises and extreme fear.
Also remember that pets should not have access to certain foods we'll be enjoying this weekend: Corn cobs and bones (can cause an intestinal blockage or a chocking hazard), onions or onion/garlic powder (food toxicity), no fatty/greasy foods (concern for pancreatitis and overall gastrointestinal problems).
With all of this in mind, we hope you plan ahead and have a wonderful, least-stress possible holiday with your family and friends!

The office is open until 4pm today, Wednesday 11/27 and will be CLOSED afterword until Monday 12/2. Remember to check your medicine cabinets before the weekend!
Please remember that although the food we will be sharing together tomorrow may be tasty to us, but it can be harmful to and even hard on our pets' stomachs! Reserve table scraps for the turkey soup you'll make this weekend.
We hope the tryptophan won't hit you too hard, but if it does, make sure to cozy up with your furry friends!

It's National Veterinary Technician Week! Our technicians have all graduated from an accredited Veterinary Technology program, which is not required by New Jersey. They have worked so hard to get where they are that they deserve a celebration ALL WEEK LONG!
Anna and Lysha are likely the people you see most often, but your pets may have also met with Susan, Jess, or even Sarah, who fill in as often as they can. Amanda Ysabel is working as an assistant at Katz & Dogs while she is in school, working to obtain her degree as a veterinary technician.
They are the first ones to comfort your pets while they wake up from surgery, the calming voice when your furbabies are scared for a blood draw or nail trim, the confidant restrainer when they are acting head-strong, and are also the ones taking care of some of the "dirty work" around the hospital like getting stool samples off to the lab. They do it for the love and care that comes along with the hard goodbyes and the new hellos. It's not an easy job, but boy, does the health and happiness of your pets make it worthwhile.
They are the glue that holds this profession together. Remember to show your appreciation, this week and always.

Brace yourselves, everybody!!! Do we have your attention now? The doctors will be out of the office next week! We will still be open for technician appointments which can consist of: vaccinations (as long as your pet has been examined in the last six months), blood draws, ear cleanings, nail trims, a**l gland expressions, and weight checks.
Because there will be limited communication with Dr. Katz, PLEASE give us advance notice for any medication refills. This may need to be as much as 24 hours.
The next day Dr. Katz will be in the office will be Tuesday, September 3rd.

*The office will be closed Wed. 7/3 and Thurs. 7/4*
As we roll into the week of July 4th, firework safety is more important than ever. With the legalization of ground fireworks like fountains, they will be much more frequent in residential areas. Pets don't understand what these are and will likely seek shelter anywhere they can. PLEASE DO NOT wait for the last minute to ask us for medications to help your pet through this scary time of year. A test run a day or two before could tell us if we need to adjust the dose for the big day! Designate a safe place for your pet to wait out the event, turn on your TV or radio, close the curtains, and maybe even invest in a Thundershirt (a tight vest to help your pet feel secure and comforted). Make sure your yards are secure, microchip information is up to date, and ID tags are legible. We have had patients in the past run off and thankfully be reunited, but suffered severe abrasions to their paws from running away and changing directions quickly. Feel free to reach out to us with any questions and help you form a game plan!
*DISCLAIMER: If anyone has plans on using fireworks at home, PLEASE keep in mind that one of our team member's neighbors set their yard ablaze this weekend after the use of illegal fireworks and caused severe damage to their home! There has been VERY little rainfall these past few weeks and so it can easily happen to anyone not taking the proper care and precautions! Have fun, but stay safe, and keep your own pets inside while enjoying the pyrotechnics.

Today's the day, folks! The solar eclipse is just hours away! Have you closed your curtains and kept your outdoor pets inside today? Have you cancelled your dog walkers for the afternoon? Drivers will be distracted on roadways and may not be paying attention if they are crossing the road. Pets instinctively know not to look at the sun. They do not need their own pair of eclipse glasses. Please do not encourage them to look up. They may be a little confused as to why it seems like nighttime, but that uneasiness should fade. If you suspect any eye damage due to watery eyes, squinting, stumbling on staircases, or bumping into things, please call our office for examination of you furry friends!

Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone! Did someone special happen to bring flowers with them today? Do you have fancy dinner plans tonight, perhaps? Please remember, there are certain flowers that should NOT be left unattended in a home with pets. Not only that, but the strings from balloons, decadent chocolates, even that half empty glass of wine left on the coffee table before you stepped out. All of these things pose an incredible risk to our curious pets.
Take extra precautions today and maybe, be a little selfish; those gifts are for YOU and you ALONE!
If you suspect your pet has eaten anything listed here or in the images below, call the ASPCA Poison Control Hotline at 888-426-4435 and have any of the item’s packaging handy.
If there is immediate concern, go to Veterinary Emergency Group, 790 Route 3 in Clifton right away and call poison control on your way. They are open 24/7, 365 days a year.
