Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Vermont

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Vermont Official page of Blue Cross Blue Shield Vermont. An independent licensee of BCBSA. We think this is particularly important in this time of great change.

Who We Are
-----------------
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Vermont has been a primary part of Vermont’s health care system for more than 30 years, providing thousands of Vermonters with health benefits and services. Indeed, we are an independent, local, not-for-profit Vermont company, governed and managed locally, and our sole focus is Vermont. For more than a generation we have been the only comp

any to offer coverage to all Vermonters, regardless of their age or medical status, or whether they purchase through employer-based health insurance plans, as individuals, or obtain coverage to supplement their federal Medicare benefits. Our affiliation with the national Blue Cross and Blue Shield system provides our members with the security of seamless, discounted health care services when they travel across the country or abroad, but we exist solely to serve Vermonters. We believe our single-state focus allows our about-340 employees to bring highly personalized service to our customers and members. It also enables us to work closely with our state’s communities and health care providers to manage costs and improve the quality of health care, and to adapt our organization to meet Vermont’s changing needs. Our company is centrally located in the state, headquartered on a scenic hillside in the central Vermont community of Berlin.

Tuesday's Vermont Businesses for Social Responsibility (VBSR) Get-Together at BETA TECHNOLOGIES was exactly the kind of evening that keeps Vermont's business community working for Vermonters. VBSR brings together businesses that have agreed to answer to their workers, their neighbors, and the environment, and being in a room full of them is a reminder of how much is possible when that's the standard. Glad we were part of it! 💙

Right now, four astronauts are closer to the Moon than any humans have been since 1972. 🌔

Did you know the infrared ear thermometer exists because of the space program? NASA invented sensors to measure the temperatures of distant stars, and that same technology was adapted to read the temperature inside your ear, giving us instant, accurate readings.

The space program has quietly shaped everyday healthcare in ways most of us never think about. Heart pumps keeping transplant patients alive are miniaturized from Space Shuttle engine designs. Supplements in 90% of U.S. baby formulas were developed from NASA research on growing food in space.

The discoveries keep coming! Medical experiments aboard the International Space Station are advancing treatments for cancer, bone loss, and heart disease right now.

Good luck to the Artemis II crew. We'll be watching! 🚀

We’re proud to be the presenting sponsor of this year's Vermont Senior Games! 🏅

Yesterday at the State House, our President and CEO Beth Roberts joined Governor Phil Scott to celebrate the athletes who competed in the national games. At 50 and up, these Vermonters are proof of what is possible when you prioritize your health.

Exercise can be the best medicine, and we’re honored to support an organization that shares our goal of a healthy Vermont. Learn more about the Vermont Senior Games Association at the link in the comments. 👇

“What does it mean to be a non-profit health plan?”

It’s a question we get asked a lot!

Being a non-profit health plan means we don’t have shareholders. This ensures our priority is serving our members and communities, not seeking profit. Here’s how we’re doing this:

🔵94% of your premium dollars go right back into paying health care claims.
🔵We support other nonprofits doing important work across Vermont.
🔵Community leaders help guide us, so decisions reflect local needs.

That’s the power of a non-profit structure focused on you and the health of our Vermont communities.

Healthy communities don’t happen by accident -- they happen when we show up for one another.

That’s why we support local nonprofits like Girls on the Run VT and Vermont Adaptive, fund school wellness initiatives, host seasonal events, and empower employees to spend time volunteering.

From supporting youth programs to helping families access the care and resources they need, we’re proud to invest in communities across Vermont.

Andrew never imagined a quiet Saturday afternoon ‘just feeling off’ would turn out to be a silent heart attack, but it did... and it changed everything.

His experience reminds us that heart symptoms don’t always look like textbook chest pain — fatigue, shortness of breath, or unusual exhaustion can be red flags too. What’s more, stress can play a powerful role in heart health by raising blood pressure, increasing inflammation, and triggering ways your body responds under pressure.

Andrew made meaningful lifestyle changes, from mindful breathing and setting healthy boundaries to rediscovering activities he loves — and is feeling better every day.

In honor of : take a moment today to check in with your stress and your heart.
