On this day 10 years ago I became a Certified Nurse Midwife. ✨ Ten years of finding that tiny heartbeat for the first time ❤️ (or not💔), of measuring bellies, of listening to mothers and fathers and siblings. Ten years of holding space, observing labor, filling birth tubs, giving encouragement. Ten years of welcoming tiny humans into the world & ten years of witnessing mothers become. Ten years of making umbilical cord hearts and giving placenta tours. Ten years of showing families that birth can be different. Ten years of joy, tears, holding my breath, saying the hard things, grieving, celebrating, sharing in so many tender moments.
It hasn’t always been perfect, but it has almost always been magical. I remain in awe of women’s bodies - their strength and resilience. I remain honored to walk with women and their families on this journey, blessed to be the one catching (or helping catch) their baby. I remain ever grateful for the many teachers, colleagues, mentors & friends who have been part of my journey as a midwife. ✨
