The belief is often brought to my attention that “therapy is supposed to make you feel good.” Sometimes. Therapy can be hard work, taking small action for change or facing the things we avoid. Untangling a mass of thought and emotion is not happy comfortable work. But the result, which may come after one session or years of sessions, is very freeing.
We have to go through the hard to get to the good.

It’s possible to get so stuck focusing on what we lack, that we miss opportunities that seem beyond our reach. Step up boldly, lift up your head, and prove to yourself you can reach farther than you believed.

Planting good seeds is not a guarantee of good growth, but the only way to get good growth is to plant good seeds.

Living in a world with access to endless information and potential opportunities, it is far too easy to get distracted or overwhelmed. It is therefore increasingly important to curate and stay diligent, while intentionally leaving room for exploration and play.

When the journey gets heavy, it’s ok to take a break from people. It’s ok to not do the dishes. It’s ok to take an extra nap.
It’s good to listen to your system and have compassion for what it needs, even if this looks very different than what’s familiar.

Compassion is a natural and genuine response that is available when we are lead by our core self. However, this doesn’t mean that compassion is always available, nor that it needs to be.
We have protective parts that may not always feel compassion is safe, and it may create some dissonance with conflicting core beliefs. What do we do with these hurt and protective parts that resist compassion? Meet them with curiosity and compassion.
The goal is to heal these parts of hurt, heal ourselves, and thus heal the world. Forcing compassion only creates resentment. Forcing compassion is ironically lacking in compassion.
