Let’s just be honest - Instagram is not small business friendly. Unless you’re constantly posting reels, the algorithm doesn’t work for you. In fact, Instagram suppresses posts with language common to businesses that use this platform. Getting reach to people already following us is difficult, much less getting seen by nonfollowers. It feels like a losing battle and, frankly, it’s exhausting.

Regarding reels: What amounts to a few seconds of video is a huge production behind the scenes. With limited hours in the day, actual work takes priority and social media ends up falling by the wayside.

We’re mentioning this to explain why our posts have become fewer and far between. BUT we ARE here! This is pinned to the top of our photo grid to let you know that you can reach us here, you can access our website here (lǐnk în bïo), we are taking orders, we have not abandoned the folks here on Instagram!!

As I make another batch of and realize how it long it takes, I just wanted to reflect on a few things. When I was at the Mothman Festival this year, a man tried my hot sauce, said it was amazing, and then scoffed at my prices saying, “for that price, you can keep it!” It was the last bottle, and someone behind him came straight up and said, “I’ll take it!” I had a moment of self doubt that maybe I expected too much for the product I create, but then I was reminded of all that I put into this product, and for those that don’t know, I’ll elaborate a bit.

Every batch of Moth Sauce is a months long process. Yes, it’s just hot sauce, but I start every pepper in these bottles from seed in early January. I spend tons of money on soil, tons of time growing, doing pest control, and getting these peppers properly harvested, all while using no chemical pesticides or fertilizers. I hand make and blend every batch. I label and wax dip every bottle. My products are all premium, hand made, Appalachian works of art, so if “I can keep it.” That’s ok with me, but when someone buys some, we do truly appreciate it, and we hope the experience is worth the wait. Next Saturday, August 16th, we’ll be set up at the Moonlight Market of Morgantown, WV at for their first ever seconds and vintage YART sale!

This market is a little different from the other Moonlight Markets you’ve been to in the past. You can expect all vendors to be offering one or more of the following:
- Vintage
- Repurposed
- Second-hand
- Unused art supplies
- 25% off of inventory

We’re getting together SO MANY goodies for you and they’re ALL going to be 25% (or more) off of the sticker prices!

We’ll post more during the next few days but an overview of the kinds of items we’ll have is:
- Seasonal
- Overstock
- Deadstock
- Last stock of discontinued items
- Refurbished
- Prototypes
- and items with irregularities or minor flaws

We don’t often have sales and this is the first time we’ve held a sale during a market so we hope you’ll come see us next Saturday!

As always, there will be food trucks and vendors as well as live music so come spend an evening shopping at this unique event!

As a small business that regularly utilizes the United States Postal Service, we dread getting word about shipping rate increases. Unfortunately, it is an inevitability and the USPS just recently announced new pricing for the federal fiscal year to go into effect on Monday, July 13. The rate increases vary across the board. This is a summary of what to expect.

We typically use Ground Advantage which appears to be one of the areas with the smallest increase but how the higher rates for “rural shipments” will affect WV is yet to be seen.

We truly understand how frustrating and concerning it is that prices are going up seemingly everywhere on everything but, please, remember: Small businesses don’t and can’t operate the same as big corporations like Amazon or Walmart that may be able to absorb or avoid some of the extra cost for a time

Not to be That Person who is always baffled by the passing of time but, wow, how is it March already???

This is our first post of 2025. Still struggling with that “is it even worth it” question when it comes to making social media content these days knowing that the algorithm does not favor accounts that don’t post lots of videos and reels.
