I have a confession! I'm not a super organized SLP! I know! I know! We are supposed to be, right? 😮
But, after 2 decades of being an SLP (nearly all of my career has been on the road, in home health) & staying VERY busy, I have learned quite a few hacks that really help keep me together & feeling pretty cheery most of the time! 😃
I've decided to start sharing them for others who might like them. So, here goes!
I'm more of a minimalist these days but it helps me to keep extra household products on hand. I saw these over the door racks at Dollar Tree recently. I got two to fit perfectly on the back of a small closet door. These can be used so many ways. But, I think it's perfect for my extra cleaning items! Of course, you might attach small baskets or bags to hold items. You can use for jewelry, scarves, etc.
I also got the cleaning items at Dollar Tree! Do not sleep on that dish mop!! It's A++
So, I actually scored a ticket to this celebration. But, I wasn't able to get to Nashville for it. I'm finally watching it on CMT & it's so hard to get through!! Long Live Loretta Lynn & every good thing she stood for! She was so so special, ahead of her time & a trailblazer! 💗
Happy Halloween!! 🎃
Happy Halloween Weekend!

Children who have trouble paying attention, don’t learn well, or have poor impulse control are behaviors commonly associated with ADHD. Or, are they really signs of lack of sleep? Whether it’s sleep, or ADHD, for parents and clinicians, the two issues can be hard to separate. For a start, the most common treatment for ADHD, is to prescribe a stimulant, Ritalin. ADHD is a disorder that begins in childhood and encompasses symptoms of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. These symptoms interfere with functioning at school, at work, and in social situations. ADHD is present in approximately 5% of children, and it is more common in boys. An estimated 25 to 50% of people with ADHD experience sleep problems, ranging from insomnia to secondary sleep conditions. Doctors are starting to connect the importance of treating sleep problems and the impact this can have on both ADHD symptoms and quality of life for ADHD patients and their families. The big issue may be that sleep disorders are likely underdiagnosed in children. Physicians depend on polysomnography that use parameters that are only diagnosed, when obstructive sleep apnea is detected. That requires an AHI (apnea hypopnea index) to reach a certain threshold, ie. the child has to stop breathing for long enough. In a functional dental examination, sleep disorders are screened for through a broad set of symptoms and anatomical presentations. It allows for additional information to identify the risk of airway resistance, hopefully before any sleep condition can reach apnea. These may include: • Narrow high palate • Open mouth posture • Mouth breathing • Snoring • Crooked teeth • Underbite or overbites • Teeth grinding • Bed wetting • Day time sleepiness • Dark circles under eyes If your child has one of these signs, and you suspect it’s affecting their performance at school, they may be suffering from a breathing related sleep disorder. Does your child show any of these signs?

8 years ago today I took My Mom to see Fleetwood Mac in Pittsburgh. I remember excitedly purchasing the tickets that May for Mother's Day.
Mom is only 19 years older than me & her music is Rock! So, I grew up listening to Rumours in the 70s. This was truly a bucket list item for us!
I remember how flawlessly the band played & how perfect Stevie's singing was. She told a story that day about the meaning behind the song Gypsy & I'll never forget the experience! ❤️

What’s the difference between UARS and OSA??
In Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA), the airway is either completely or partially blocked by the tongue or soft-tissues in the back of the throat. This leads to interruptions in breathing that causes drops in oxygen levels and increases to carbon-dioxide levels. When the body senses this, it responds by sending signals to the brain that awaken the person through fight-or-flight stress mechanisms. This can happen every few minutes throughout the night.
In Upper Airway Resistance Syndrome (UARS), there is a restriction or resistance to airflow that requires increased effort to maintain adequate breathing. It is similar to OSA in that the resistance to airflow is more predominate during sleep when the throat and tongue muscles are most relaxed. Yet, in UARS, the person wakes up before there is a blockage that would cause interruption to breathing.
