She is a Research Assistant Professor at the University of Oklahoma and Associate Director of Research at the Zarrow Institute on Transition and Self-Determination.

Presentation Title: Risky Business: Supporting Dignity, Autonomy, and Independence in Practice

Dignity of risk highlights the role of meaningful risk-taking in promoting learning, growth, and self-determination for individuals with disabilities. This interactive session moves beyond theory to support application across K–12, 18 plus programming, and postsecondary settings through structured decision-making tools.

Attendees will engage in scenario-based problem solving focused on digital citizenship, choice-making, and employment while examining risk levels, supports, and the balance between accommodation and modification. They will leave with practical strategies to promote autonomy, scaffold decision-making, and fade supports to increase independence.

Elizabeth brings a powerful message centered on the importance of inclusion. With lived experience as a self-advocate with Down syndrome, she has been included in everyday opportunities, including college, where she earned an associate’s degree in Early Childhood Special Education Paraprofessional.

Today, she applies her experiences in her role as a Project Specialist with the North Dakota Center for Persons with Disabilities at Minot State University.

In her presentation, “Advocacy and Experience: How I Got Here,” Elizabeth will share her journey and highlight how inclusion, advocacy, and opportunity can open doors to education, employment, and independence.

We’re excited to spotlight Grant Zollinger and Gloria Gilbert, keynote presenters from the Bobcat RISE program at Texas State University! 👏

Grant and Gloria are passionate student leaders and self-advocates who will be presenting “We Ain’t Payin’ for Nothin’!”

Their presentation offers an inside look at their experiences in an Inclusive Postsecondary Education (IPSE) program and the real impact these programs have on the lives of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).

Grant brings a strong leadership mindset and is driven to create opportunities for others. Gloria is a dedicated advocate with a goal of working in a nursing or group home setting, where she can continue supporting and empowering those around her.

Together, they’ll share their journeys, highlight the impact of IPSE programs, and show how these experiences can lead to meaningful, competitive integrated employment.

Vandal QUEST internship partners recently participated in a professional development training focused on promoting dignity in the workplace for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). The session was facilitated by Olivia Lebens from the Idaho Center on Disabilities and Human Development (CDHD).

The training provided historical context related to deinstitutionalization and highlighted initiatives supporting competitive integrated employment. Participants engaged in discussions and explored practical, actionable strategies to foster inclusive workplace environments, support employee success, and strengthen internship experiences for Vandal QUEST students.
