As part of our efforts to continue helping our neighbors in WNC, Friday’s have been set aside as our day to wear fun scrubs or t shirts. Each team member pays $5 (or more if they wish) to participate and all money collected goes to WNC.

Cornelius is behind the phoropter today checking to see if there have been any changes to his vision since his last exam. Our providers here at Mt Airy Vision Center take excellent care of our patients and are devoted to helping them see their very best. We recommend annual exams not only to check the overall health of the eyes, but also to be sure that you are seeing your best. When was the last time you were behind the phoropter? If it has been over a year you may not be seeing the best that you could. Give our office a call today to schedule your appointment ~ 336-789-9031.

Day two of Spirit week is Polar Express Day. And look where we found Cornelius! Trying to take a break while resting in a bowl of marshmallows. We guess we can forgive him though since it does appear to be very cozy, and we have been working him pretty hard. So today we will let him rest and maybe even enjoy his marshmallows in a cup of hot chocolate. We invite you to stop by and have a cup with him as we will be providing this special treat for all of our patients today.

Thursday’s learning time for Cornelius included retinal photos taken with our Optos machine. Optos testing, also known as as Optomap retinal imaging provides high resolution images and has many advantages including:

•detailed retinal imaging

•early detection of eye conditions and diseases

•digitally stored images for a permanent record of eye health

Optomap exams are a fast and comfortable alternative to traditional retinal exams. As part of our standard of care at Mt Airy Vision Center Optos images are taken at every exam, helping us provide our patients with the best care and treatment possible.

Today Cornelius is learning about dry eyes. Did you know that dry eye is more common during winter months? Cold outdoor air and indoor heating systems drastically reduce humidity causing tears to evaporate quickly from the eye surface leading to irritation, redness and a gritty feeling. To prevent this, use a humidifier, wear sunglasses outdoors and consider using artificial tears. If symptoms persist you may want to consider scheduling an appointment for a dry eye evaluation or calling your provider for recommendations.
