This article got me excited to share! It caught my attention because I have always been one to avoid artificial colors for all the legitimate concerns regarding their negative impact on health. So to read about this new use of tartrazine, FD&C yellow 5, in medical research that has far reaching potential impact in the future for human imaging and diagnostics was extremely fascinating. And, it also makes me hope now that tartrazine has a new use, it (& all the other artificial colors for that matter) can stay in the laboratory and out of the food supply!

A common food dye turned mice see-through, a "stunning" finding that could revolutionize imaging techniques in medicine.

🌞Summer is the best time to build a body right!

Did you know, good nutrition is not only the key for optimizing your child’s growth and development but for a lifetime of health?

Kids are not so resilient...their little growing bodies are under a lot of demand and they need the best and cleanest food supply, cuz they rely on us to help them be built to last. Let’s set them up for a lifetime of health.

Summer is a great time to take a break from ultra processed foods and sugary desserts every day. Sugar increases inflammation in the body. Inflammation runs interference with their immune system, bone density optimization, dental development, neurological, and endocrine systems.

Summer sweet options can include watermelon🍉,organic berries 🫐, fruit-salads 🍍fruit and vegetable smoothies 🧋, vegetable kebabs on the grill 🧅, herbal iced teas 🫖, and homemade frozen fruit pops . These are all great natural ways to bring more nutrition into their body while they are getting summer sunshine, the sand between their toes, and the grass beneath their feet.🌴

Urolithin A is a compound that helps support mitochondrial function and muscle repair and has diverse anti-inflammatory properties that reduce chronic age-related conditions.

The best part is a healthy microbiome along with your genetics will help you produce this beneficial compound. Many people can convert the polyphenol plant compounds in berries, nuts, and pomegranate seeds into Urolithin A, and for others, supplementation is an option.

You have all heard the buzz about the new weight loss drugs. Did you know that the compounds responsible for these new medications, we actually make in our own GI tracts?

In order to do that though, the body needs some key nutrients, including the fiber and antioxidants found in plants like vegetables and berries. Most of us think of fiber's effect on the gut as one of the bulk for motility to help our bowel regulation. While it does that, it does so much more by serving as food for the good gut microbes living within us.

Those microbes help: Produce beneficial compounds that regulate our appetite and satiety. Produce vitamins right within our own bodies that help optimize our metabolic rate. Detoxify chemical compounds that get into our bodies from our food & beverage supply & environment to help us reduce inflammation.

This series has focused on the benefits of produce and plant-based foods. That's why it's great to fill those little bellies with the good stuff. It always saddens me when parents say that their kids “just aren’t one for vegetables.” Let's get them excited and entice them every day.

Involve kids at mealtime: They can help make a salad, or a smoothie, even if they don't love the idea of eating veggies, touching, smelling, and talking about the benefit to the Earth and our bodies is an important education and one that will warm them up to the idea of trying them. The touching, smelling, hearing, the crunch of torn lettuce leaves are all part of the sensory experience that will ideally entice them to taste! It rounds out that sensory experience.

Start a small garden for the season, even patio pots of cherry tomatoes, green beans, and mint.

Bring them along to a farmers market to support local farmers and agriculture with the planetary benefits. Kids are great advocates of Mother Earth but need our guidance to connect the dots between the health of the planet and their own health.

Kids, as well as adults, are up against a lot of advertising of processed foods. Early brand loyalty to snacks & ready-made foodstuffs interferes with thoughts of vegetable, fruit, and fresh plant food intake during the day. Be mindful of planning your produce intake for the day for a great nutrient-packed punch.

1. Vegetables and fruits contain potent plant nutrients and antioxidants that help your arteries remain elastic for a lifetime.
2. That’s important because it helps prevent high blood pressure, stroke, heart attacks, vascular disease, and dementia.
3. Produce is foundational to the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension. It takes more than just an apple a day. Contact me for recipes and ways to get more vegetables and fresh produce into your daily diet.

🌞💦 Stay Hydrated During Heat Waves! 💦🌞

Feeling fatigued despite drinking lots of water? Here are some essential tips to keep you hydrated and energized:

1. Morning Hydration: Start your day with hydration. Drink a glass of spring water with a splash of lemon, unsweetened cranberry, or tart cherry juice for added health benefits.

2. Hydrating Foods: Incorporate water-rich vegetables and fruits into your diet. Melons, cucumbers, and lettuces not only hydrate but also provide electrolytes and nutrients.

3. Electrolyte Solutions: If you're exercising or working outdoors, add clean electrolyte solutions to your water to replenish lost minerals. Find clean electrolyte options here:

They are seriously not optional folks. If you want all your body parts to work well and last a lifetime while keeping you as healthy as possible along the way then go for the green, reds, oranges, purple, yellow, yummy rainbow colors mother nature provided.

1. Eat them in any form: smoothies, soups, stews, salad, juice, cooked, raw 2. Fruits help too but they can be sugary so balance out with those rich alkalizing veggies! 3. Visit your Farmers Markets this season or join a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture)

The more stress you are under, the more nutrients you need. However, most people reach for comfort foods which translates to ultra-processed foods & refined sugars. Be prepared to break that habit and have on hand to reach for:
1. savory over sweet: cassava chips & guac or salsa
2. organic dill pickles
3. organic hearts of celery stalks with cashew butter
4. a little something sweet: plant-based yogurt with crushed pecans or walnuts with cinnamon
5. a frozen organic berry slushie
