On March 1st, 1803 Ohio became the 17th State of the United States. Today marks Ohio’s 221st Birthday. Happy Birthday Ohio!

This Barn, home to Cedar Brook Farm, has stood for around 170 years on U.S. 127 near Lewisburg, making it a very historical barn almost as old as Ohio. The Barn has lost its Bicentennial mural painting, commemorating the State’s 200th Birthday, which can be easily corrected with a little bit of Photoshop.

The county is named for Captain Edward Preble, a naval commander in the Revolutionary War and the War with Tripoli. There are 8 covered bridges still standing in the county including the oldest in the State. Benjamin Hanby wrote the Christmas carol “Up On The Housetop” while living in Preble County.

South of Fremont, down State Route 12, this Bicentennial Barn was coronated with Civil War re-enactors firing a Civil War era cannon as the opening ribbon was cut.

The county was named for the Seneca Indians who lived in the area. The area was a major hub for the Underground Railroad and many troops in the Union Army that fought in Gettysburg were from the county. The county’s flat farmland provided an ideal location for aviation pioneers like the Wright Brothers to conduct test flights in the area.

The Barn was owned by Mansfield native and Pulitzer Prize winning author, Louis Bromfield, before becoming one of the busiest state parks in Ohio.

Richland County’s largest City and Seat is Mansfield, known as the Carousel Capital of Ohio, Danger City, The Fun Center of Ohio, The Racing Capital of Ohio, and also the filming location for Shawshank Redemption at the Ohio State Reformatory. In 1937, Elektro was built in Mansfield, the world’s first humanoid robot standing at 7 ft tall and capable of speaking, taking voice commands, walking, and more. The county is named for the richness of its fertile soil.

We are now halfway through our Tour around Ohio visiting and documenting each of the 88 county’s Bicentennial Barns! This 47-foot-high horse Barn in Erie County is now a dedicated wildlife area located off of SR6.

Erie county is home to the Cedar Point Amusement Park and Kalahari Resort, America’s largest indoor waterpark at one time. NASA Glenn's Plum Brook Station is located in the county, the world's only comprehensive, full-scale, rocket and satellite testing facility. The county is named for the Erie Tribe, whose dialect translates erie to wildcat.

The county is named for Jonathan Trumbull. Jr., Governor of Connecticut, who once owned land in the region and governed the land as the Connecticut Western Reserve until its sale in 1800. Trumbull County is the only perfectly square county in Ohio. 25th U.S. President William McKinley is a native of the City of Niles in the County. The inventor of the hot dog, Harry Stevens, was also a resident of Niles. 🌭
