Barn #47: Preble County

On March 1st, 1803 Ohio became the 17th State of the United States. Today marks Ohio’s 221st Birthday. Happy Birthday Ohio!

This Barn, home to Cedar Brook Farm, has stood for around 170 years on U.S. 127 near Lewisburg, making it a very historical barn almost as old as Ohio. The Barn has lost its Bicentennial mural painting, commemorating the State’s 200th Birthday, which can be easily corrected with a little bit of Photoshop.

The county is named for Captain Edward Preble, a naval commander in the Revolutionary War and the War with Tripoli. There are 8 covered bridges still standing in the county including the oldest in the State. Benjamin Hanby wrote the Christmas carol “Up On The Housetop” while living in Preble County.

Barn #46: Seneca County

South of Fremont, down State Route 12, this Bicentennial Barn was coronated with Civil War re-enactors firing a Civil War era cannon as the opening ribbon was cut.

The county was named for the Seneca Indians who lived in the area. The area was a major hub for the Underground Railroad and many troops in the Union Army that fought in Gettysburg were from the county. The county’s flat farmland provided an ideal location for aviation pioneers like the Wright Brothers to conduct test flights in the area.

The county’s dispensary, .dispensary , is located in its largest city and county seat, Tiffin, alongside Ohio’s oldest private University, Tiffin University, founded in 1888.

Barn #45: Richland County

Right across the street from the Malabar Farm Restaurant is the Malabar State Park where this Bicentennial Barn was once used for Storage of hay and equipment for the farm. The Barn was owned by Mansfield native and Pulitzer Prize winning author, Louis Bromfield, before becoming one of the busiest state parks in Ohio.

Richland County’s largest City and Seat is Mansfield, known as the Carousel Capital of Ohio, Danger City, The Fun Center of Ohio, The Racing Capital of Ohio, and also the filming location for Shawshank Redemption at the Ohio State Reformatory. In 1937, Elektro was built in Mansfield, the world’s first humanoid robot standing at 7 ft tall and capable of speaking, taking voice commands, walking, and more. The county is named for the richness of its fertile soil.

Barn #44: Erie County

We are now halfway through our Tour around Ohio visiting and documenting each of the 88 county’s Bicentennial Barns! This 47-foot-high horse Barn in Erie County is now a dedicated wildlife area located off of SR6.
 Erie county is home to the Cedar Point Amusement Park and Kalahari Resort, America’s largest indoor waterpark at one time. NASA Glenn's Plum Brook Station is located in the county, the world's only comprehensive, full-scale, rocket and satellite testing facility. The county is named for the Erie Tribe, whose dialect translates erie to wildcat.

Erie County’s two current Dispensaries are The Forest in Sandusky and Firelands Scientific in Huron.

Barn #43: Ross County

Driving south from Chillicothe on your way to Waverly this Barn resides on U.S. 23. Built in the 1920’s to keep and feed livestock, but is now used for storage.

The county is named for the U.S. Senator of Pennsylvania, James Ross, a friend of the Territorial Governor at the time of its founding. Chillicothe was Ohio’s original State Capital in 1803. For over 150 years, Paper has been a main export of the county.

The county’s dispensary can be found north in Chillicothe . Also about 10 minutes south of the Barn is another closely located dispensary in Waverly .

This Bicentennial Barn is over 100 years old and is located on US-42, just northeast of Cedarville.

The Barn and its farm is owned by The Governor of Ohio, Mike DeWine. Grass-fed cattle are raised on the farm.

The county is named for General Nathanael Greene, an officer in the Revolutionary War who was known as one of George Washington’s most talented and dependable officers. Primarily located in the county is Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, the largest military base operated by the Air Force on US territory.

Barn #41: Hardin County

On the way from Lima to Kenton on State Route 309, this Bicentennial Barn has been used for generations to raise 4-H animals. 🐷

The county is named for Revolutionary War officer John Hardin.

More than 700,000 Footballs are handmade each year in the county in the Village of Ada by the Wilson Factory’s talented craftsmen and women since 1955. 🏈

Barn #40: Miami County

This Bicentennial Barn is found in West Milton, 10 miles southwest of the City of Troy. The Barn was built in the late 1700s and is now used for social events, including birthday parties and barn dances.

The county is home to Tipp City, where William Henry Harrison was hailed a national hero for the 1811 Battle of Tippecanoe that ultimately led to his campaign slogan, “Tippecanoe and Tyler Too”, that propelled him to becoming the 9th U.S. President.

The county is named for the Miami Indian Tribe whose principal village was in Pickawillany.

Barn #39: Trumbull County

Shortly east of the City of Hubbard, on the road to Pennsylvania, resides Trumbull County’s Bicentennial Barn. Now a little hidden by trees, this Bicentennial Barn shines Ohio's Bicentennial Logo and more American logos designed to spread Hope. The Barn was used as a dairy for almost a century. 🐄

The county is named for Jonathan Trumbull. Jr., Governor of Connecticut, who once owned land in the region and governed the land as the Connecticut Western Reserve until its sale in 1800. Trumbull County is the only perfectly square county in Ohio. 25th U.S. President William McKinley is a native of the City of Niles in the County. The inventor of the hot dog, Harry Stevens, was also a resident of Niles. 🌭
