The Crimson Horse Forecast!
Keeping it as concise as possibl. This will be a more ‘yang’ year.
Yin and Yang years alternate in The Lunar Calendar. So, last year had a stronger yin energy. I observed in myself and others an inability to rise up. Most felt called to greater self care and observed weaker motivation. This year we will have the support of the flip from yin to yang, plus the yang nature of the fire element, and the yang strength of a horse.

So, things could be potentially bumpy, stock market will remain over all strong but ups and downs. There will be more heartfelt protests. More desire to actively do more to help others and find we have a little more strength to participate in group, activities/yang. And this could be a year of fires 🔥. While there were no recorded fires the last Fire Horse year 1966. There was the San Francisco earthquake and fire in 1906 previous Fire Horse year.

Things will be coming from an over all ‘good nature’ as horses are known for their strong communication skills and herd relationship/companion animals. Rather than the snake energy of being from the underworld more of a predatory nature.

Looking back at some of the previous years.
The previous Trump inauguration 2017, was a fire rooster year. Perhaps the loud all caps tweets at all hours of the night, orange skin color, his hair representing a rooster’s comb. 2020 was a Metal Rat year know as a very auspicious year. Happened to present with metal and its associations with metal scale of justice (social justice issues), death (covid), our immune system, online computers (everything went online). All strong associations with the metal element. And the rats obvious association with disease and spread of plagues. While previous Biden inauguration year was a water ox year, a year of quiet steady work that doesn’t draw much attention, low drama. The year of the black tiger Putin, who is notorious in pouncing on vulnerable situations like Syria, invaded Ukraine only for us to realize his army was a ‘paper tiger’. AI got going the year of the 2023 white rabbit which is a year of strangeness associated with going down the rabbit hole through the looking glass.

Always fun to see what really happened those years in retrospect.

If you are hoping to create and build community this year should find more ease and motivations in these efforts. 🔥🐎♥️✌️e

Hello friends of Seaside Acupuncture. There are some new faces around here (including mine because I’m not on social media much), so I thought I’d introduce myself.

I’m Lisa Dunlevy, a licensed acupuncturist who has built a practice in Mt. P where we value whole-self healing through the lens of comprehensive Chinese Medicine. I have been practicing acupuncture in the Lowcountry for over 20 years, but I have always been a natural caregiver. I loved my baby dolls, babysitting, cooking, and would give my mom her nightly head rub.

Guided by an interest in healing and using food and herbs as medicine, I went directly to massage therapy school after high school and worked in a health food store where I studied with an amazing herbalist. In college I studied nutrition but the Western world’s limited approach to health (remember that food pyramid!?) came up short for me. I wanted to go deeper. To empower people to heal, to take care of themselves, to see themselves as whole beings.

While I was debating what to do next, I had a revelation: not far from my own backyard was a graduate school for acupuncture. I enrolled and soon found that acupuncture filled and motivated me in ways that felt like a true calling. Rather than isolate, acupuncture integrates the body, mind, and spirit in health and disease. It has been around for over 3,000 years, connecting ancient wisdom to modern wellbeing. It remains relevant and effective as ever, and so nourishing.

After graduation, I practiced at a doctor’s office, then a chiropractor’s office. Some of you will remember my home office era, with my Boston terriers who liked to snore during sessions! I was a mom juggling 2 littles, making herbal remedies and giving my clients the best care possible. Day after day, year after year, it has been such a privilege to practice this beautiful medicine and help others.

Through hard work, and flowing with forces of life that are bigger than me, I had the opportunity to expand into a beautiful office in central Mount Pleasant with four treatment rooms. I practice with 2 other acupuncturists, a massage therapist and even a small staff. We have been here for a few years now and joke we are in the happiness business. As excited as clients are when they arrive, our patients leave glowing, often barely touching the ground post treatment (with a delicious piece of candied ginger for the road). So grateful!

What is magic? Often we think of slide of hand tricks. As the great Michael Meade Mythologist and Storyteller says real change is magic. There is nothing like the feeling when you you make a change and free yourself from something, or start doing something you hadn’t bothered to start. It’s the most magical experience out there. Many things we yearn to do in life require us to simply take the idea (potential or yin) and turn it into action (yang) so it actually happens. It’s what makes being a human so unique and special. Why not create a little magic in your life TODAY and see what you notice? It can really build on itself and from there more possibilities are actualized. It would be so fun to share any magic big or small you create in your life today.

Dog days of summer are here in Charleston, South Carolina. In Chinese Medicine we have moved into late summer season. Friends and clients comment how they are getting the blahs, feeling heavy limbed, and not very motivated. Many want to push through this energy. Yet, what happens when we slow our roll, and savor all life’s abundances a bit? How do we ‘savor’? What does that mean or look like? Well, just like this photo. Taking in a full sunrise or sunset. The peaches are out of this world right now. Legs feeling heavy? Kick those puppies up! Drink water with cucumbers, fresh basil, to keep feeling refreshed during this time. Charleston is giving us a big humidity hug for the next month or longer. Feel enveloped by it like a mother’s or friend’s embrace. It’s the same thing energetically. When we practice moving a little differently, sitting in a different place we get perspective. Our digestion improves and we relax. The benefits are numerous. Would love to hear ways you all are moving through this season with some ease and savoring.

We are so happy to welcome Dr. Monica L. Hilton, DACM, Dipl. O.M., L.Ac., to Seaside Acupuncture. Dr. Monica Hilton has over ten years of experience as a Licensed Acupuncturist. She has worked in private practice, within a major hospital system, and with integrative medicine clinics. Dr. Monica provides treatment for various conditions including but not limited to acute and chronic pain, anxiety, insomnia, night sweats, hot flashes, digestive issues, and vision disorders. She has a special interest in fibromyalgia, stress management, and autoimmune disorders. Dr. Monica Hilton, is a native of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, and a Licensed Acupuncturist in the states of South Carolina and Georgia. She is nationally certified Diplomate of Oriental Medicine by the National Certification Commission of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM).

Her interest in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) began several years ago after a friend suggested that she try acupuncture to help relieve migraine headaches. She decided to search online to learn more about it and was immediately drawn to its theory. Dr. Monica was motivated by the way Traditional Chinese Medicine worked to heal the mind and body as one entity as well as how it focused on addressing the root cause of an illness. She began started to analyze her health and think about how so many people could benefit from this kind of healthcare. She attended Yo San University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Los Angeles, California and completed their four-year Master of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine program with honors. Later Monica earned her Doctorate in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in San Diego, CA. She has also completed advanced clinical training in China with the International Education College at Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. This advanced clinical training consisted of hospital rounds at Longhua Hospital and lectures at Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine on various topics in TCM.
Before attending Yo San University, Dr. Monica worked as a Clinical Research Associate at Duke Clinical Research Institute in Durham, NC. In that position, she traveled the country to participating hospitals to ensure adherence to study protocol, Good Clinical Practices, ICH guidelines, and FDA regulations. In the future, Dr Monica hopes to use her clinical research experience to conduct clinical trials in acupuncture and TCM.

Dr. Monica Hilton will begin seeing previous patients and new patients in mid July. Feel free to reach out to Seaside Acupuncture or to Dr. Monica Hilton directly at hiltonlac@gmail.com
