Noteworthy Music Therapy Providing professional Music Therapy services for children and families throughout the tri-county ar

My mission is to provide effective, professional Music Therapy services for children with special needs and their families. Services are rendered in client homes as well as in clinic settings, for both individuals and groups. Music Therapy sessions are targeted to client-specific goals in a variety of domains--language development, social skills, fine and gross motor skills, development of coping skills and relaxation strategies, and many others. My belief is that every person is worthy, and everyone can be reached through the power of music!

While a “hello song” might not be appropriate in every setting or with every client, they’re very useful in our classroom groups, for exactly the reasons stated here! Lets everyone know “it’s time for some music!” 🎶

Most of our music therapy sessions begin with a hello song. There are several reasons for this. It sets a tone for the session, establishing structure and starting a routine right off the bat. It also provides an opportunity for instant engagement as soon as the clients enter the room - we use the same hello song each time, and everyone gets to know it well (we've even had clients sing it without any help from us). It also provides an opportunity for us to check in with our clients and give them a chance to express themselves in a familiar environment. It promotes interaction and social skills, particularly in groups but also in one-on-one sessions. Additionally, it can be a lot of fun, especially if you include some movement.

Picture this: you’re co-treating with an amazing speech pathologist, and mid-session the client wants to “make a cake” with purple kinetic sand. As the MT, your mental and musical wheels start spinning—-how can I integrate music into this idea?

The result? A quick search found “Make a Cake” by Sylvie Simhon on Spotify (check it out, it’s catchy), and my tambourine became a cookie (cake) cutter. Voila, a star cake!! I 🩷 co-treating!

The repertoire for our senior adult groups falls right in line with my own personal favorites! Today’s game was to see if we could come up with musicians’ names starting with all letters of the alphabet. Look at how many we found!

So many of the children we work with are very reliant on routine, and depend on visual representations of each part of their day. We love it when teachers incorporate music therapy into the visual schedule for the school day, so the students know what to expect 🎶🥰

2025 Noteworthy Wrapped, recap....

Such an exciting year for us, full of changes and growth!

*Our team welcomed its first Noteworthy baby when Ms. Abby's son was born in February

*We took on an MT intern in January (Ms Kyai), who later became an official part of the team after graduating from CSU

*Ms Abby took on the additional role of being our office manager/administrative assistant, and she's doing incredible work keeping the entire team organized

*Ms Evie joined us at the beginning of the school year, as we expanded our presence in classrooms as well as in providing groups for older adults with dementia

*Ms Jen and Ms Kyai presented about the power of music for children with disabiities at the first "Empowering Our Community" Conference, sponsored by Dorchester District 2 Schools in May

*We continue to serve individual clients in all 3 counties, in locations ranging from Awendaw to Jedburg to John's Island, and everywhere in between

*Ms Jen made presentations about MT for classes at both CSU and College of Charleston

*We provided summer services for the month-long Pattison's Academy day camp as well as for extended school-year programs for Dorchester 2 schools
...and we continue to love our work and are eternally grateful for the chance to serve clients of all ages (as well as their teachers and caregivers) through the power of music therapy! See you in 2026!

2025 Noteworthy Wrapped, #3: Our team literally doubled in size this year! Abby and Jen were so excited to welcome Kyai and Evie to work alongside us, and we love the enthusiasm and new ideas they bring for their groups and their individual clients. We finished the year with a fabulous team holiday party at High Bungee Fitness in Summerville!
